Some news services do have a religion section, and some have a more generalized section that religion would fall into, such as "society". But religious events are almost never big news, so the sections aren't mainpaged and you may have to dig for them.
Some newsgroups make a concious decision to avoid the PR problems that would come from covering religion. i.e. endless complaints about favoritism or unequal coverage on one group over another.

Probably because the religious articles either deal with other things (like law, or world events) and can go under those sections instead, or because the religious articles deals with its own religion, which isnt so appropriate for a general purpose news site.

I can't answer for CNN, but Yahoo news does have a religion section as a subsection of World.

Perhaps you should ask the question to Ted Turner. However, I'd not expect him to add the section as he is an atheist.

A good journalist tries to be objective. In religion, objectivity is impossible. If you need 'flavoured' news instead, I hear Fox have a good reputation.
Also, please write in more often to the newspapers and tv channels - as journalism is a serious business they could do with entertainment at lunch.

Because religion has no real effect on the world. You know, just like people have no real effect on the world.

I guess because they don't see any reason to make it a separate news category. Regardless, they do cover religious topics.
