Oh my! What funny answers you all have! I see that the upper class folk simply use the designated closet. But the rest of you, yes, I must say, that IS how it's done! Why? I do not know. I sure do miss that. Never heard of shoes and purses tho, Wow, what a mess!

my family always does that, and i have no idea why. it makes no sense to me. i bought an extra shower curtain rod thing. the kind that just opens up and fits between two walls, and i put that up somewhere and hang all the coats. then, when the party is done, i can take the rod back down and put it away. much easier than the coat pile.

I purely recognize this custom at the same time as there are any such large kind of travellers that the coats do not all in positive condition on the coats' rack; i have in no way considered it carried out at the same time as there have been purely some travellers and there became sufficient room. If someone is doing that, i guess perchance in certain circumstances human beings were given into the habit of throwing the coats on the mattress and kept it up with out determining how they all started at the same time as they both better the coats' rack or moved to a higher position?

if the party is at my house, my coat and those of my family would be in a closet,not on the bed. I do like to put the coats on the bed because my dog loves to roll around on them!

lol yes we do!!!!! except for us its purses wrapped up in the coats, and then a whole line of shoes on the floor, they are usually the kids' shoes!!!

YES DEPENDING ON THE NUMBER OF GUESTS I AM HAVING. EVERYWHERE I GO MOST HOSTESSES DO THE SAME. I CAN HANG THEM IN MY COAT CLOSET IF IT IS JUST A COUPLE OF PEOPLE.
