I went to cosmetology school and going from black hair to a lighter color is quite risky and has to be done in stages. Any time you "bleach" any hair texture, it can be damaging. You definitely want to let a salon do it because you have to really know what you're doing when mixing bleach. If you don't mix it right you for sure end up with tons of shedding if not worse. Sometimes a booster can be used in order to take you to your color goal at a faster pace but again, whatever you do, go to a salon. Only a licensed stylist is qualified to use bleach. If you were just doing a color or rinse, that's different.

You hair will be damaged if you do it. I tried the same thing myself. The bleaching chemicals won't leave your hair for an extremely long time and it will kill your hair. 5 months later I went to go back to black and the chemicals left in my hair plus the new ones are causing my hair to brittle, thin, and falling out. If you want to lighten your hair, do a little at a time. Find a lighter shade of brunette and dye it that. Wait a few months and dye it an even lighter color. Keep doing that until you get the desired color. It's much safer that way.

Your hair will be in bad shape, but you have to know how to take care of it to keep it from getting worse. DO NOT TRY IT YOURSELF. You need to have a professional do it. If you mess it up, are you gonna know how to fix it? If your gonna get it cut, then it might not cost that much depending on where you go. Just keep it trimmed every six weeks to help control the split ends. Make sure you use a color treated shampoo and conditioner. I know you will be using bleach so it doesn't matter what shampoo you use, but the color treated is less "stripping" on the hair. Meaning regular shampoo and conditioner will clean deeper then color treated because color treated is less intense on the hair. It's hard to explain, so I hope your understanding me. Bleach strips out the pigment (color) from your hair. You don't need the shampoo to take more vitamins and nutrients. Hope this helps, Good Luck

Rethink your idea. Even though you want it medium brown ,I'm sure allot of red will come through and bleach will damage it . The upkeep will be such a pain also. Why not do the bob and just get a few subtle high lights? That will be easier to take care of and easier to get rid of if you get tired of it.

I know this may take a while, but you've got to take it step by step. First, dye your hair a brownish color. Not too drastic. Then get highlights. Once you have that for a while, and roots start showing, dye your hair a light brown. Once again, get blonde highlights. Then dye it a dark blonde, then med. blonde then you could just dye it really light. It might sound like it's gonna kill your hair, but trust me, its not going to. I have friends that did something like that, it looks fine. And its fun, when you dye your hair in the brown area, maybe you'll discover you like brown hair!

Don't do it yourself, you'll regret. Go to a salon and get it done right, it might cost you a little more, but at least you'll walk out of there, with the hair you walked in with.

it will be damaged. keep in mind that healthy hair looks better than damaged hair of any color. if you want to change the color, do it by a few shades not drastically

I bleached the crap out of my hair a few years ago.
It was pretty rough at first (like straw) but just condition like mad and you'll be fine.

i might want to point both going to a specialist or a cosmetology college that you'll trust(or has great comments which incorporates paul mitchel and others.) because it type of appears like you're replacing your hair plenty at in case you bypass to a specialist and say hiya i want this pitch black out, it will be really not straightforward to do and also you may no longer get what you want. yet in case you genuinely might want to apply a container dye i might want to apply clairol. that's straightforward to get out in case you adjust your hair color. besides the undeniable fact that the reason that your hair grew to develop into blue is because the black had a blue base(maximum do). they're frequently very cool. in case you want to stay away from that thoroughly i might want to point going for the darkest brown it is more desirable in all probability to have some red in it. yet back going to a specialist or a school(colleges have approved professionals) will insure your hair will turn an outstanding jet black.
