I agree with you. Pay it forward, I think you meant.
Reduce, reuse, recycle.
Don't litter.
Carpool and converse energy by using less electricity for appliances you don't need.
Wear fake fur and don't eat meat/fish/dairy, etc.
Don't buy animal-tested products

that is a very good start. I would like to add my own.
Get a alternative fuel source for our cars besides gas.
Use 12 wrecked cars and melt down to frame one house.
Rather than 1 acre of trees.
Oklahoma is having a conference on Biofuels in October 3-4 2006 at the University of ok in Norman. James Woolsey former director of the CIA will address the relationship between national security, dependence on foreign oil and the development of alternative transportation fuels. Farmers and Ranchers will be the cornerstone of the emerging biofuel industry. With abundant native grasses and the research done to create the fuels already.
With a net energy output more than 4 x's that of corn ethanol.
Turn att 2 this product. Because it works.

All that is just the tip of the Ice burg, it's a good start, but if that's all you do it will ultimately prove futile. My advice is to do all the online organizing you can and get other people to do the same. With enough people putting in enough effort human civilization can be reformed over time to be as sustainable and pollution free as possible putting as light a burden on the natural world as possible. Five ways aren't needed just the one, besides your five of course.

Here's an addition:
Recycle Methane gases from landfills, and reuse the energy to power other types of industrial activities. For instance: BMW's NC plant recycles methane gas from a local landfill, it supplies all the power to it's paint shop. The paint shop uses at least 50% of the entire factory's power consumption. Smart thinking helps everyone!

well I olny do the recycing but that's because here we have a new law and the bin people will olny take away one dumpster of rubbish away every 3 days for like 15 home's but the recycle people come every day and it's really easy to do! I think recycling should become more common I did not realise how quick and easy it is and like EVERY thing can be recycled

1. please stop throwing your cig butts on the ground(goes for any other trash too).2. Try to use as many earth friendly cleaners as possible. 3. Buy more fresh foods and not boxed crap. We waste so much in our packaging more than any other country. 4. be always conscious of what your doing. ex. don't go fast food then throw out the 15 napkins you so generously took. 5. ditto on your #5
