People who are popular are so, even if most everyone doesn't like them because someone actually does. Unfortunately, that someone is usually someone labeled popular too, and they are usually not liked very much, at least by the people on the bottom. Those people who have all the prestige seem to be the ones who determine who is popular and who isn't. They get to make the labels for everyone to wear, which oddly enough most people live up to their labels well. So many people may dislike the real popular folks, but you will always see people making fools of themselves bowing to these popular types and trying desperately to be a part of that group. Simply stated, if everyone stopped trying to be a part of that group, it would cease to be popular.

People need categories in order to make their minds work faster. Therefore you label people dorks or jocks or preps or druggies because it's easier than getting to know them. We like groups. Groups are simple. Popularity stems from how many people know them. You can be popular because your grade knows your older sibling for example. It doesn't necessarily have to do with whether or not people like them. They just have to command the respect of your peers.

Quiet Amber, thats not the point. Look dear, there are going to be alot of people running around acting like dorks, and people are going to be thier friends until the next stupid person comes around, then the first stupid person wont be liked anymore. If you understand the "circle of life" and apply it to this subject, you kinda understand.

The popular ones that lack consideration are only "liked" because
they will do things for people they consider friends(bribe) or the
so called friends don't want to feel his/her wrath.
