Illegal immigration hurts our country. It's decimated the construction industry for construction workers. Those wages are lower than 1975 wages.

It's also preventing us from using more technology in agriculture. Technology requires an initial investment, illegal workers do not. Technology can reduce the cost of harvesting so the final price of produce would be approximately the same.

Then there's the issue of the burden on our social welfare system and hospitals. And the issue of illegals driving without insurance.

If we want to allow them in, we must document them and provide them legal status. Hiding out in a packed apartment, working illegally, with no access to insurance or corporate health benefits is not compassion.

Ahhh immigration. Let me tell you a story.

My husband is an immigrant from Germany. His former wife decided to lord that over his head every time he did something she didn't like. He did everything by the book...made his appointments with the INS, treated her like gold, bought her a house, had a pool put in, and if he looked at her wrong, she beat the crap out of him and threatened to call the police and have him arrested for beating her, even though he never laid a hand on her.

She stole his green card and destroyed it. Nothing was done.

When he finally left her, he lived in fear that the INS police were going to show up at his door and arrest him. He is a legal resident. And still, he was afraid until he finally spoke to an immigration attorney.

And even then the fear continued

I don't have a problem with immigrants. I have a problem with people who exploit immigrants for their own gain. We were all immigrants at one time or another. What, you all think our ancestors were from here?
