I really like LA. But yeah, definitetely expensive, and traffic is horrible. But there are tons of places to go out and they are a lot of fun. Don't move specifically to LA, if you move to the surrounding areas is a lot better. LA is ugly though. Visit orange county, it's pretty nice but very expensive. A good place to live (at least in my opinion) is rancho cucamonga and upland, and all of that area which is cool because the mountain is right there. Houses around that area won't go less than $400,000, so yeah...
But the good thing about LA is that you have Las Vegas very close (about 3-4 hr drive) there is snow during winter (only at the mountains) we have nice beaches, we have deserts, nice weather, and a lot of places to go out. San Diego is an hr away, and San Francisco is further north but it is very nice too. So yeah, just try coming here just visiting before you move. Good Luck

Cali is expensive place to live, and lots of the LA area looks like crap or ghetto so you will need to scout out an area to live. Remember a nice one bedroom will cost you over 1100 a month (meaning a place you will feel safe). Also everything else is more expensive, gas, food, everything. People live here for the weather, it's great, but just make sure you have everything set before you make the jump. Can you make enough to live here? Are you okay with traffic, and I mean traffic. If you have specific questions about L.A. just ask. Hope that helps some.

Well, you have the shades. You just might fit in. L.A. is a magnificent collection of barrios and suburbs, haves and have nots, winners and losers, useless rich lay abouts and ugly gangbanga m.f.'ers. It gets very very very hot. Has inversions, way too much smog, it's huge: a crumb represents a single district or neighborhood. Spill a glass, no a carton of milk...that's how spread out L>A. is. You must have a car or motorbike. If you want to continue breathing, you must live near the ocean where rents are soaring and property prices beyond the pale. It is filled with airheads and superfical wannabes. You'll probably need a roommate. You better like plastic and pastels.Lastly, it ain't Ohio, baby.

That there are too many out-of-state people who move there with too high of expectations. This is what you get:
-A lot of non-Natives who act like pretentious ******* because they think that's what they're supposed to do.
-Every waitress/waiter is "really" an actor
-Rent that you can't afford on your crappy waitress job.
-Horrible traffic
-Beaches that are wonderful as long as its not June-August and there isn't a sewage spill
-Excellent Mexican food & local fast food chains
I know Hollywood does a great job of glamorizing LA to the extreme, but reality is a lot different. If you want to move, really have a game plan in place- know where you're going to live, have a job lined up, by all means have a car (you can't get anywhere in LA without a car and the public transportation blows), make an pal online who can show you around when you get there.

Prepare for culture shock. People in CA are snobs. Nobody speaks to each other. If you say hello to a stranger anywhere they act like you're nuts. It's expensive. The weather is nice, but you'll miss the change of seasons. And the trees. In CA you have to look up 20 feet to see any green. Not to mention the earthquakes and fires. Overall, I'd say go visit for a month before you decide to take the plunge. It can be a very fun place, but the friendliness of the Midwest is nonexistent and I think you'll find you miss Ohio.

PROS: The weather is better, salon services and produce are cheap, every culture in the world is here, you are close to the mountains for when you need your snow fix and there are a LOT of things to do.
CONS: It's expensive, no seasons, it's expensive, you MUST have a car, it's expensive, good paying jobs are hard to find, it's expensive, people are fake and it's expensive.
Did I mention, it's expensive to live here? A small condo in a bad neighborhood is over $300,000 and rent is equivalent. Gas at Arco just hit under $3 a gallon and people are lining up for that, whether they need a fill or not.

One thing I do know about Los Angeles is that it is very expensive to live in the City of Los Angeles and the Los Angeles Metropolitan Area. The City of LA is very congested but it has a strong public transportation system with good weather and a lot of jobs in the entertainment industry. One thing you have to consider when living in California is that California has earthquakes that could be deadly if they reach higher than an 8.0 on the Richter Scale but other than that, if you feel you would like to live in Los Angeles, go for it and I hope you enjoy living there.

I lived in LA my whole life and 3 years ago moved to New York. I don't miss it. My friends are moving from there too. They say the real estate is OUTRAGEOUS!!!
My mom sold her post WWII cracker-box house 750 sf (2br 1 bath) in 2004 for over $300,000 and since then prices have skyrocketted so I can only imagine what it costs now.
My advise to you is to visit there and become very clear on what it is you are trying to do by moving there. It's not an especially friendly place.
Best of luck to you!
