The hardest thing about college is learning how to manage your time. Plan out your days and try to find times to do all the reading you have to do. Partying is okay, but only do it on the weekends. And don't drink to much.......also.....stay away from fraternities and sororities b/c that is all they do...not good.

I'm a junior so I've done this for a few years.

Time management is very important (see above for help with that as I still haven't quite figured it out).

Make sure you study correctly. This is important because if you don't you are wasting your time. Make a friend in class so you have someone else's interpretation of what the professor is saying in case you get confused. When you have a question ask your professor, it is there job to explain it to you. That's what you are PAYING them to do.

Get to know your department secretary. No doubt he or she will save your life at some point during your college career.

I don't party at all, but I do live at one of the top partying school. If you are going to do it, don't get caught. It's pretty much a gaurentee to the people that work there you are going to, they realize and most accept this fact. They tend to frown on it if you get caught though. And whatever you do, don't do it the night before a test or during homecoming week. That's usually your worst time for cops.

Never believe what the opposite sex tells you, especially in your first year. For most it will be the first time away from the coop and they want to see how much trouble they can get in.

I agree, it's important to stay away from the greek life. Not only do they treat their pledges like crap, they also change the way you are. I knew a complete hippy who turned a sorority girl. It broke my heart.

This is most important! Be yourself. You no longer have to be all the things you were in high school. That's not you anymore, you are starting afresh. Take advantage of it. Good luck!

To be cliched, be yourself. Stay as happy as you can, try not to pick any fights, do the work if you don't want to waste your money, chug water when drinking (it prevents hangovers), and just enjoy yourself. I'm assuming you are going into your undergrad. Chances are, everyone else is just as clueless as you are about college. Just relax, and have some common sense. Don't do dumb things like walk by yourself after 3AM, don't be afraid to ask for help (whether you think it makes you look weak or not), and drink coffee. It helps.
