Get some gherkins and capers, quickly blitz in a food processer for no more than 5 seconds, add a little lemon juice, salt and black pepper to taste, then fold the mix into some mayonnaise

easy as that

Tartare sauce is a classic, which is used mainly to accompany any cold cooked fish.

Ingredients for 6 people
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
3 hard-boiled egg yolks at room temperature
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
200 ml groundnut oil
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
1 Tbsp wine vinegar or lemon juice
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
20 g onion, finely chopped, blanched, refreshed and well drained
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
3 Tbsp mayonnaise
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
1 Tbsp snipped chives
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
salt and freshly ground pepper

Step 1
Put the egg yolks in a mortar and pound with the pestle to make a smooth paste.
Season with salt and pepper.
Step 2
Then incorporate the oil in a thin stream, stirring continuously with the pestle until well amalgamated. Step 3
When it is all incorporated, add the vinegar or lemon juice.

Step 4
then the onion, chives and mayonnaise and season to taste. Variations
Depending on your taste and how you're going to use the tartar sauce, you can vary the herbs:
Dill
Tarragon
etc.
American version
Don't be misled by recipes that call for chopped sweet gherkins, capers, etc. They're a derivative of tartar sauce, but they're not the "original," if I may put it that way!

All I ever do is toss some pickle relish into as much Miracle Whip or mayonnaise as I think we'll need, then add a dash of garlic and onion salt and a pinch of sugar.

So far, no one's ever asked if it was homemade, so I guess it does the trick.

To a good quality mayonnaise (preferably home made) add 1 finely chopped dill pickled gherkin, 1 finely chopped shallot and some finely chopped capers, or, if you have been far sighted enough to make them, pickled nasturtium seeds.
You can also add if required, chopped parsley, or grated horseradish or finely chopped chili - depends with what you are serving it.
Enjoy!

the easiest and pretty decent tasting way is to use miracle whip and sweet pickle relish but you have to adjust it as you go along in order to determine how much of each to mix together.the main thing about cooking is learning how to set your own patterns and get something from the experience.
