Because it cannot be proven that God does not exist, it takes faith to concretely say God does not exist (as opposed to the agnostic who says God may or may not exist)?

Also, it seems to me, that without God, there could be no cause and effect; just random happenings. This randomness would also result in the suicide of thought.

An odd question, but I'd say that since being an atheist means that you consider nothing and no one higher than themselves. The search for meaning, or the contemplation of creation - no matter which path you choose - is not a possibility, since this would be simply gathering knowledge for the sake of knowledge.

It would never enrich the person, nor make them enliven them to reach for more, because in the end, they are the pinnacle of all they understand.

I am not religious, for religion kills thought. My sister is a Christian. I talked to Mom recently about a college class I had in Bible History. I learned about some contradictions in the Bible in it, and I find more in other books and on my own. Sis heard our discussion and began insulting me outrageously. Mom and other people present were shocked. Such people as Sis are brainwashed to believe that it is a sin to even question the Bible or to look for contradictions in it. Many areas of thought are amputated in her and people like her. Even when I was a child, I could not be brainwashed to not question the Bible. I saw Bisop James Ussher studied the Bible and found creation was in 4004 BC, while my dinosaur books said Earth is 4,700,000,000 years old. Even at age eight or less, I saw scientists had evidence for their figure, while the Bible is a naive tale with no proof.

Far from it, in fact quite the opposite. Atheism is the trriumph of thought and reason over fantasy.

not sire as to what you are trying to ask but Atheism is a group of people who do not believe in god because there is no proof of god. Religious people look down on Atheist soley for the fact that they choose reason over something called faith.

Some religious people refuse to read a book because it will cause them to start to questioning their religious faith and because of that feel threaten to expand their mind-- Poster Will See? it goes both ways

Actually atheism makes everything so simple and scientific that there is not much room left for speculation. Intellectual people like to speculate about gods and after-life and the purpose of life. These speculations become irrelevant when one starts believing in cosmological and biological evolution.

its not the suciide of though for faith

some simply cannot beleive in a god...such as myself...i have tried christianity...and i just couldnt do it...it just all seemed as if it were lies to me...

it has nothing to do with thought or faith...

18The wrath of God is being revealed from heaven against all the godlessness and wickedness of men who suppress the truth by their wickedness, 19since what may be known about God is plain to them, because God has made it plain to them. 20For since the creation of the world God's invisible qualities—his eternal power and divine nature—have been clearly seen, being understood from what has been made, so that men are without excuse.

I have noticed that some atheists here on Yahoo answers seem afraid to read books which might undermine their philosophical position.
