I am getting married in March next year. It is still less expensive because the busy season begins in April. I did it for the financial aspect. I can get more for less and have a lot left over. Since everything is going to be held in the same place, there is no need for my guests to have to go in the snow (if any is left at that time), weather wont be bad indoors, and i dont have to worry about injuries.

I say go for it! Flowers may be more expensive during the winter months but to cut money off of that you can even get your flowers made from silk or something of that nature.

(hint: stay away from the winter holidays- they are EXPENSIVE- Christmas, New Years, Valentines Day)

I have always wanted to do this. Imagine marrying on Christmas Eve, or even any time in December. Make it a late afternoon wedding - anytime from about 4pm and it will be dark so if you're lucky you'll have the stars. Pick a headdress that will sparkle like frost in the darkness. Wear a velvet cloak, hooded, over your dress, it will keep you warm and stop your teeth chattering during the photographs. Put your bridesmaids or other attendants in rich colours like deep plum or crimson and have evergreens in your flower arrangements and bouquets.

Light your reception area with torches in brackets in the walls if you can. If you can afford it, find a great place to have your reception. I have always wanted to marry at Hedingham Castle in Essex - they do a winter wedding package for about £5,000 which I think is an arm and a leg, but from the photos on their website it looks gorgeous.

I cannot think of anything more romantic and individual than a beautiful winter wedding. Good luck.

I agree that winter weddings maybe a little cheaper (not much) from spring and summer weddings. Popular wedding months takes place in the spring and summer that is the reason for some of the wedding items are a little cheaper. I didn't get married in the winter but I think it is not a bad idea (if you like cold weather).

If I had to do it all over again, I'd have gotten married when it was cheaper too. Your wedding is your day and you need to make it work for you. If you need to have a reception (party) for your guests and save money at the same time, then by all means do so. Things are expensive enough as it is and young couples need their money to get started in life. Blowing all of your savings on an extravagant party seems wasteful. Your friends and family will understand. Some of the best wedding I've gone to were held in the couple's backyard where food was cooked on a barbeque grill. Don't worry, have the party you can afford, have fun, and good luck!

My sister-in-law got married in December and found it to be cheaper, plus if you're not a big Ivory fan, then the colours are different for that season and might make a change.

If you are thinking about cost - have you thought about going overseas? There are some good deals to be had, and alot of the tour operators have specialist departments now. Plus you could go in UKs winter when its some place else's summer

We're getting married on a Tuesday in winter - and I'm sorry to have to tell you, it isn't cheaper because it's a weekday in winter! Our venues have set prices regardless of the time of year, as does the photographer etc. Perhaps you are lucky enough to have picked places that do have different prices.

We just want to get married in winter because we think it will be nice, and romantic too - we are having candles in the church and at the reception, and it's around Christmas so we are having lovely rich colours. Plus, it sounds silly, but wedding dresses are heavy and personally I think it would be too hot in the summer.

My advice is to do whatever will make you and your fiancé happy - it is your day and you want it to be a lovely day to remember. I hope it goes well whatever you decide to do.

I married in early January, just after Christmas and have to say it was nothing special. I got too wrapped up in the logistics and costings and didn't stop to think about why I was marrying the guy, or if indeed, he might be the right one. I would recommend waiting at least six months before 'committing' to a relationship, and maybe a further 18 before marrying - that way you get 2 Christmases with his folks and can judge if you really want them round your place every month for the rest of your life.
When you get close enough to someone, lets say your soulmate, then marraige dwindles to an insignificant formality whose cost is irrelevant.

the only cheap way to get married is to do it on the quiet and let all the relatives know when you have done it. Registry office,2 witnesses and a weeks holiday, come home, throw a party in the evening and confess all. Give everybody a wedding list and see how many pressies you don't get!! But, with the many thousands you have saved you can get what you want, and know who your real friends are!!!( the ones who still get you a prezzy and wish you both well!!)

I got married in January. It snowed like crazy during our ceremony. When we were taking our outside shots, it got a little cold, but those pictures are absolutely wonderful. Everyone loves them! The snow was lightly falling during those pictures, but the way it stands out in the photos is amazing. I loved it... he loved it. If I had it to do all over again, I would do it just the same way. My only suggestion is try to use flowers that you know are in season or you will spend a fortune.

Once you start doing your wedding planning you will quickly realize there is no cheap alternative for anything. When these people hear wedding, all they see is dollar sign.

Oh, sorry--bridezilla moment!

If you have a winter wedding it would be beautiful, what I would do is have a winter theme for your wedding. Do whites because they will give a crisp feel and unless it is really cold, go for it.
