Absolutely in advance. There are different tiers of priceing and the discount tickets sell first. There is NEVER a last minute sale to fill up a plane...the last minute fares are how airlines make their money. 30 day in advance or more is always when the cheapest fares are available. Tickets are broken down into 30 day, 21 day, 14 day, 7day and 3 day advance purchases and some still require a Saturday stay but most airlines have dropped that rule.

I am sure that you have heard that your best friend get a flight from London to Rome for 1 pound plus taxes.
You check the price for the same route and the same Airline and the price is 200£!
And this is just the way it works!
So how can we find the best (I should say the cheapest!) fare for our flight?
Here some of my suggestions
1- Start to look well in advance for your flight. Prices fluctuate every day.It is good two or three months before the departure.
2- Compare all the airline that have the same route. Not always one company is cheaper that the other. The same is true for bookengines.
3- Check the prices + Taxes. Some Airlines charge you more than other.
4- Be flexible with the Airports. Some Airports have lower taxes than other but they can be hours from the actual destination! (An example is Frankfurt - Han that is 2 hours from the city!). So check how much is to get from the Airport to the actual destination.
5- Be flexible with the days. Usually Tuesday, Wednesday or Thursday are cheaper days.
6- Visit often the website to check and recheck the prices!
7- Once you find a VERY GOOD deal book it! If you find a flight for 10 £ would be very difficult to find something much cheaper but easily you can end up paying 50£! So get the YOUR deal when you find it.
