The best food is unprocessed - buy the ingredients, and prepare them yourself, that way you will know what you are eating.
Fresh fruit and vegetables, simply prepared (steamed) or better still just chopped (or grated) and eaten raw, meat and fish as it came from the sea or the slaughterhouse, grilled or stewed without additional fat.
A minimal amount of "additions" such as mayonnaise (although doing without entirely is masochism,) but you can use a touch of diluted vinegar, with chopped garlic or onions to give a bit of taste.
Throw away the salt cellar, and buy yourself a decent pepper mill, a jar of pickled chilies is a happy addition to your larder, and lose the sugar bowl.
This sounds draconian, but you will be surprised how much better you feel for eating "decent" food, and then you can enjoy the occasional "indulgence"
(Fish in batter with chips and mushy peas) or even (A Take Away)
If you want the government guidelines, you will probably find them on the web-site of the Food Standards Agency.
