Cats are supposed to be aloof, indifferent, and composed. Getting caught doing their little biscuit schtick flies in the face of that delightfully feline facade.....

Cats do this as a left over from when they were encouraging the milk from their mothers' nipples. Often they were taken away from Mom at too young of an age, but not always, and that's why they continue to do it. It's comforting to them. I don't think that your cat is embarrassed, just that she has been disturbed. They are no different to every other species, even people, when caught in the act of doing something - they stop!

Cats are private individuals. They prefer that privacy. Dogs on the other hand don't care. Heck, you catch them doing almost anything and continue as if to show off for you.

Do you yell at her when she claws other things? If so, she may wonder if happy paws (I call it paddy-pawing) is something she shouldn't be doing ... but she just can't help herself. She sounds like a sweet girl.

Well that may be what she is nervous about. My cat is nervous about when he jumps to land on the back of the couch and misses. Its completely normal.

Maybe she's trying to maintain that one shred of modesty. If I happen upon my cat while she's doing her own rendition of 'Smelly Cat'...she gives me a look like 'what the hell are you looking at?'

Do you like it if someone came into the bathroom when you were doing potty, & stared at you? Cats have feelings too.

I don't like anyone to watch me do "Happy Paws" either! lol ...Buy kitty a covered litter box with a door. He or She will have privacy and you will have less odor, mess and don't have to view the litter.
