The Vietnam war wasn't really a "war". We had an objective there. To stop the spread of Communism. Did it work? I would say yes and no. Can we win Iraq? I think we learned a lot from the Vietnam objective.
In my opinion, should we be in Iraq...hmmm, I have given this more thought than I ever planned too. I know that pulling out now is insane! You can't stop what you started without finishing it! If we do there could be global consequences! Why do we like Iraq's oil, besides the fact that it sustains our needs? Because, China likes Iraq's oil too. hmmmm
There are no easy answers here people...I think it is great if you are reading and studying the past. Knowing where you have been, will help you know where you are going.
Anyway, Take Care

War becomes the answer when all other options have been exhausted (in this instance). Do you think the terrorists will come to a negotiating table to sit and discuss ideas, religion, peace and how we can live together?
The U.S. has been accused of being the "bully" or an "arrogant superpower" but have any fingers been pointed towards the real problem? Do you think that if we simply ignore the problem that it would go away? Is this how you handle problems in your own life? Do you think the terrorists will leave us alone if we choose not to involve ourselves in their matters?
Many countries and people complain about what's going on over there. It's easy to point the finger when you have no involvement in something so difficult. If the mission succeeds, the countries that are not involved will benefit. If the mission fails, the countries that are not involved can continue to point their fingers. It's also very easy to say it won't work but if you were put in charge ask yourself how you would complete the mission and then ask yourself if it would work, especially when there are many against you?
We don't love war.....but this is what it came down to.

Where in Gods-Name did you get your info.? a "Cracker-Jack" box with trivia on it? How can you say we "Lost" in Vietnam? To do so is pissing on the head-stones of the 58,000 American fighting men who lost their lives there! WE DID NOT LOSE! We were pulled out of Vietnam because it was "Unwinable", not because we lost. Have you no shame? No sence of dignity? where in the hell did you get %63 of Americans are against the war? That is the furthest thing from the truth! The only credible number's are %63 of Liberals are against the war, Like yourself! And the only ones who will "Go Down In Shame" as you put it are YOU, and those like you. I bet after "9/11" your mouth was wide open demanding we do something in response to those events werent you? Now you critisize the same Military you were demanding justice from! How dare You! You PIG! and you have no-right to be a part of this Great Nation! I think the likes of you should be packed up in a very-small crate, sealed shut, and dropped to the bottom of the marianas-trench. I would not ship you to a 3rd world country, they have enough pollution without people like you. You should be completely ashamed of yourself. May all of your teeth fall out of your skull so you can never utter words like this again. I hope your fingers fall off as well, and you are stricken with the ability to communicate only with Rat's. Now, all that being said, take the advice of the other gentlemans comment, "Makingapost" and GET THE F**K OUT! LEAVE NOW! 1st. Sgt., 7th Special Forces, (Ret.) Vietnam, "67"-"70"

Actually, the media and war protesters at home lost the Vietnam war for us, just as they threaten to do here. Even the North Vietnamese have admitted that they knew if they could hold out Soviet stooge peace protesters in the US would eventually win the political battle and they would then take the South by default. That's exactly what the Iraqi "insurgents" are hoping too.

The idea that the U.S. military lost Vietnam is completely false. The U.S. military was out of Vietnam out about a year before it fell. The movies of Americans leaving in haste with Vietnamese in tow is completely misleading. Everyone, including the Vietnamese that wanted out got out weeks before South Vietnam was overrun.

Any comparison of this war to any other war we've ever been in is both short sighted and just plain wrong. This is a different kind of war but we still have the same media and liberals painting gloomy pictures. But then isn't that what the media always does? Tell me when if ever you see the media giving us good or happy news whether it be in times of war or peace? Bad news makes good headlines.

How can you have the unmitigated nerve to post in this forum?!?
Who has told you war is all about body count? We did that a long time ago and it cost us big time! Only b/c we tried to be truthful about the death we created and suffered. Our "public" - sick as they are - demanded it be so! In Panama, we killed hundreds. Did the US press tell you about them, no! Let me give you a glimpse of reality, deary. We stacked the dead bodies - of PDF soldiers - up in freezer vans like cord wood! I was there, where were you? I saw many friends go down trails with guns ready and some had to be carried out. Dead! You were probably burning your bra so the fella at home could get a glimpse of your teats! You make me sick!! Don't like what we're doing? THEN GET THE F**K OUT!! Leave now!

Nobody is throwing a party because we are killing people over there. Remember, we were attacked first! Maybe not by the Iraqi's themselves, but people who have the same belief as they do. They want radical Islam to rule the world, so you enjoy being free to express your opinions and thoughts? Then you should reconsider you point of view.

I seriously doubt anything you say could ever scare our US Military. However, you might want to be a little scared yourself. If you're ever out in public making the comments that you make on here about our Military, I'm afraid some of those "Scared Troops" you're always referring to might give you an @ss kicking.

We won't win the war or lose the war. Nobody ever completely wins or loses, they just find a way around.
Look at WW2--did the Germans or Japanese lose? For the moment--then they came back and bought up all or most of the US companies. Who won?
