I have read the bible through many times and it has always seemed to me that revelations is something of a hitchiker that used the scriptures to transport its message through to our time. Revelations seems very foreign to the rest of the scriptures.
What do you think?

Clit_nibbler... Who? John? Where did he get his info? I am not a Christian, I do believe in God, but I don't think any man has had a one on one with God. Besides revelation does not seem very Christian.

opinionated, yeah it is very obviously a very true prophecy, but is it really of the bible? or has someone used the bible to perpetuate it?

Believer in, Or perhaps faith is being used to manipulate us! Obviously the author(s) of revelation had some knowledge which was very very uncommon for the time.

Mrs. mom, You need to quit relying on teachers, and do some reading. Please don't be offended, Very many people rely on being taught the scriptures rather than reading them for themselves and that is like beleiving everything you see on the evening news.

The Book of Revelation can be confusing to the modern reader because much of it was written using a symbolic style of language that is not used today. Sincere Bible scholars, in fact, disagree about the meaning of some of the symbolic passages. But that should not keep us from reading it and understanding its main message.
The key for the reader is to try to see beyond the details to the main themes, which are tremendous truths. For example, the book of Revelation underlines the fact that this world is doomed, and our hope must never be in this world or its political systems and philosophies. It also points us to the great truth that some day God through Christ will triumph over death and evil, and Satan will be utterly defeated.
The Book of Revelation emphasizes that Christ will come again some day in great glory to establish His Kingdom of perfect justice and righteousness, "and he will reign for ever and ever" (Revelation 11:15). Some day those who know Christ will be secure forever in Heaven, and "there will be no more death or mourning or crying or pain, for the old order of things has passed away" (Revelation 21:4).
Most of all, the Book of Revelation (like all of the Bible) points us to Christ. He is the Savior and Lord of all who trust in Him, and some day we will see Him face to face. Are you ready for that day? You can be, by repenting of your sin and giving your life by faith to Christ today.

Revelation fits into the whole council of God. One of the cool things about the bible is the thread of harmony that runs from Genesis to Revelation. But you need to be willing devote some time to study to see this.
So study the book of Revelation instead of just reading through it.
Here is a link to Precept Ministries - they offer a book called "How to Study Your Bible"
Precept.org
Here are a few things you'll discover"
what type of writing this is
who wrote it
Cross references
how to interpret and apply scripture
How to do a word study and much more
Revelation contains many mysteries, however there is a promise of blessings for those who read and hear what it says:
Revelation 1:3 "Blessed is he who reads and those who hear the words of the prophecy and heed the things which are written in it for the time is near."

Revelation seems strange because it consists of prophecies concerning the end times. All prophecies found in the Bible have come true - many of them long after the prophet concerned has died - and Revelation is the last yet to be fulfilled. Should actually be read with Daniel, because some of the prophecies in Daniel are also unfulfilled because they are coupled with those in Revelation. Go well, And God Bless!

Well first it was written by John the apostle.
It is a little more modern than Daniel which is an overlay to Rev.
It is a letter sent to seven churches that existed at that time, but note that what is spoken of in Rev2-3 is types of churches.
Now what is kinda hard to understand is that
1 john is in spirit (out of body)
2 he see thing from heaven (a diff. dimension)
3 he writes what he sees.
The last one is what makes it hard.
He sees a beast rise out of the sea. I believe he sees some kind of animal rise out of the ocean!
But the "sea" are people, and the beast is an organization.
Go to history and see the UN of today, being formed after WW2, now that's a beast!
Many of the Old testaments speak on the end times, but Revelations is the only one written as seen from heaven.

one thing Revelations is really called Revelation and John was the one that wrote Revelation. P;us it does seem very different then the rest of the Bible and it does reflect to now a days. if you watch on the news and the weather on TV it's all in the Bible in Revelation (talking about the end time)

Revelation certainly does seem "foreign" to the rest of the Bible, except maybe the Book of Daniel. I think Revelation was written as a coded text; the author was using symbols to communicate with the Christians who were being persecuted by the Roman state. The people of the time understood the symbols, but now they are mostly meaningless to us, and preachers explain them in many different ways, to suit their own theology.

butchtroll,
It's immersed in the future, at least I think that it is. Some don't believe that. And also, John wrote it, which I understand was not something that he majored in. He wrote it in Greek, and his Greek was not polished.
But it does tie into the rest of the Bible, it gives clairity to some parts of Daniel. It gives us some information on what the Seven Churches were like, and it also shows that Jesus favors churches and finds others offensive.
Finally, I wouldn't choose just any pastor to teach it to me. Dr, Gene Scott was the best for that. I don't think anyone could hold a candle to the way he taught it. I also like what I've heard from Pastor Chuck Missler.

Perhaps many Americans today do not understand its prophecies in Revelation, because 'we' Americans (as a majority) do not obey the rest of the Bible. Perhaps it talks about 'Americans' but in a 'non-plain' use.
