I want to adopt a dog (or puppy), but it's being sold in Florida at a rescue center. It's been fostered and it's a great breed, but I live in Michigan and I want to get it so bad! It's a fantastic dog, already house trained and that. How much would it cost to ship it here? PLEASE answer and please be around the exact cost!! Thanks!!

From Florida to Michigan would be around $180-$200. Contact Northwest Airlines. I have used them for shipping before and like them the best. They do actually ship COD at times. I sent an 8 week old Shepherd pup from Indiana to Mobile, Alabama a while back in an intermediate crate and it was less than $170. I used United once to ship to Colorado. It worked out alright as well. Most airlines will want to ship a dog on a direct flight. Call around to different airlines that come into your airport. Make sure that they get a health certificate on the dog before they ship.

The airline goes by weight. I brought my 70 pounds dog back from Mexico and her ticket was over $600. Most airlines will give you the exact cost if you call them. Remember, there are other requirements for flying a dog. You need health certificate, dated within ten days of flight. Current shots within 30 days of flight. Absolutely no sedatives are to be given. They also have a regulation carrier that you must use. I would imagine a puppy would cost you in the neighborhood of $250-$300. That's the best I can do, without knowing weight, etc. Remember, the puppy will have to fly 'cargo', and your ticket must be purchased in advance of the flight and all pertinent paperwork must be in the Cargo Officer's office and approved about three days before flight. Good Luck..........and I hope you get your pup. My son just got one from rescue in Colorado and he's so happy with her. She's an English Springer Spaniel and is beautiful.

By the way, my dog did great on the flight. Everybody was especially good to her also.

You just need to call a few airlines and ask their policies and fees. Also, that trip in cargo could be very hard on such a small dog. you could check into using a pet transport service. see below.

You have to CALL an AIRLINE!!!!!! The rates CHANGE....you know, like when people fly!!!!!!!!! Do some work yourself!!!!!!!
Whatever shelter that has it would have to be the one to put it on the plane!! Better make sure they would be OK with having it flown. You could not pay me any amount of money to fly one of my dogs!
