My niece is allergic to dogs, and of course she loves them. Her doctor said to try a breed that does not shed like a poodle and to bath the dog often as possible with a dandruff shampoo for dogs. A lot of the time when a person is allergic to an animal it is because of it's dandruff. There is also a hairless dog, but here where I live they are rare and expensive.

There are no truely non allergetic breeds of dogs.
Some people may react to some breeds less than others but all dogs and cats have some hair shedding and dander to them and if your allergies are bad pets may not be the best choice.

Despite what people might say, there are NO totally hypoallergenic dog breeds. You may not be sensitive to one certain dog of a brred, but react to another dog of that same breed.
Some breeds are claimed to be hypoallergenic, and are probably LESS allergenic, but not totally!!!!

Try looking in a newspaper. Chihuahua are a great idea, since their hair is so short. My aunt has one, since she has horrible allergies, and her Chihuahua hasn't given her any allergy troubles.

Try the pet shop...

Shitzu/Lahsa Apsa (SP?) is a really great, playful breed.
Have you checked your local newspaper in the classifieds??
