Regarding a new border security package the House intends to float next week:

Sen. John Cornyn, R-Texas suggested "that if House Republicans get their border security package they may be unwilling to go any further. "If you get your dessert and you don't have to eat your vegetables first, who's going to eat their vegetables?" he said Wednesday."

Still, he said he'd vote for it if that was the only package he could get this year.

What do you think?

I think Speaker Hastert is 100% right in saying 'get control of our borders'. 'Comprehensive' is a euphemism for amnesty, and the first order of business on all of this is that a LOT of people need to pack their bags and go home, which they likely won't do willingly, but a nationwide majority of people wants NO amnesty, maybe a guest worker program or something later, but first things first, no more illegal immigration. Letting illegal immigration go forward is first of all a direct slap in the face to everyone that's applied and waited patiently, jumped through all the requisite hoops to try and become a US citizen, second of all it's a phenomenon that's driven by/keeps driving corruption in our country, if we want to help other countries there's wiser ways of doing it than by letting them move in wholesale.

I was glad to see this news story, because I feel that it represents a very necessary and long-overdue 'sea change' on the part of those claiming to represent the american people, 'representatives' that have for so long kept their eye on ways to further bankrupt our country long-term by sinking us further in debt to pay for their BS programs that largely only end up helping their campaign donors, 'one hand washes the other' and so forth, we as americans call a place home that was once the world's largest lender, and is now the world's biggest debtor,
an increasing number of american households are about 1-2 paychecks from financial disaster, it's time to call for these guys to cut the crap, and start working on fiscal reforms and other policy that does more than benefit whatever corporation they've collectively sold their souls to. But, wave 5 billion in small, unmarked bills in front of most politicians, they'll likely sign just about anything you put in front of them, including deed and title to the country as we know it. That's just not right. Putting things back on the 'straight and narrow' can start with having good enforcement on our borders, and by expelling people that have no lawful right to be in our country to begin with. We've been awfully tolerant for years and years, and now that kindness is being mistaken for weakness by some fairly carnivorous opportunists who have NO reservations about putting americans out in the street. What ARE our moral standards, when it comes right down to it?

I'm personally glad for the May marches, they put a fine point on just how long we've been largely absent from the polls, reform's not that hard, sure it'll mean a little bit of a paradigm shift from some of the more pro-globalization types, but maybe they can go 'globalize' themselves somewhere where people are more receptive to and can afford to tolerate their style of 'representation'. We need some good, honest, well-concieved
reforms, changes that'll let more americans un-chain themselves from working away their entire adult lives, not out of choice, but rather out of necessity to satisfy an ever-mounting stack of bills that now include taxation to support whatever hopeless case 3rd world country that these clowns feel like adopting THIS year. If Bill Gates or somebody wants to go out and save the planet, that's all good and fine, philanthropists are really good at that, what we've got today is INvoluntary 'philanthropism' that's been expected/extracted from us by politicians that claim to 'know what's best' for us or whatever, when in fact their stunning levels of ignorance
simply boggle the mind. There's cause, and effect, and right now bone-headed policy that's been pursued for years re: immigration and other problems has had a fairly negative effect on the rest of the country. 3 cheers for Congress, for taking the first steps towards regaining american independence. Next step, national debt...
