Let me start by saying I live 1000 miles from the rest of my family. My mom came to visit me last week and while she was here my grandma was put in the hospital. The two of them live together. Well, when my sister took her she took off my grandmas socks off and notice that she had fungus all over her feet ,she stunk really bad and she hasn't apparently had a shower in weeks maybe months. She is 85. My sister said that she is not being taken care of by my mother. My mom obviously has some mental problems and her dog pees ALL over her house, it is DISGUSTING. I refuse to even visit them. Well, my sister told my mom that if she doesn't straighten up that she is going to take my grandma. I think my mom will loose her mind and i'm scared what she might do if this happens. I need to get my grandma out of this situation but I don't have the slightest idea what I can do from here.

You definitely do need to get your grandmother out of this situation! Your mom is obviously not capable of taking care of your grandmother, and her mental health could be affected by the stress. There are services available to your grandmother, and your mother.
Call your local Dept. of Human Resources, they can tell you more about what she qualifies for. Legacy Link is another organization that helps elderly people, they do "meals on wheels" and even have house keepers that will come by a couple times a week to clean, do laundry, and grocery shop. It sounds like she would also qualify for a nurse to come by and check up on her, bathe her, etc. I hope this helps. I know this kind of thing can be devastating.

Call the Board of Health in the town where your grandma lives and fill them in on the situation, then they will tell you what they can do from there.

I work for a assisted living facility. Theres many options. assisted living isnt a nursing home its just a place where residents can get help when they need it with showering, toileting and daily things that can get harder as we get older. You need to think of the best interest of your grandmother and her health. You dont want to ignore the problem and regret it later.

Social services need to come in on this situation. Your Gran is being abused and your mother is not capable of looking after her, it is too much for her to do alone.

I would call someone...Perhaps ur grandma's heathcare provider. Your mom ins't taking proper care of her. You will feel much better if you and ur sister get involved. Good luck!
