I had an accidental breeding of father/daughter once.. I keep my bloodline very clear of genetic defects..However, this litter of 7 produced 1 puppy with fatal heart murmur (died at 1 year old) 1 puppy with liver failure (also died at 1 year old) and 1 with severe skin allergies...the other 4 were wonderful puppies......those are the only genetic problems I have ever had..so I had no clue before that those recessive traits were just sitting there, waiting for a father/daughter breeding!
Studies show that you will have a 30% higher risk of genetic defects breeding parent/offspring..

the problem is, that none of the defects showed up until pups were more mature.... I swore that I would never again raise heartaches!

Not unless you have a freaking clue!!!! It is done sometimes in dog breeding, but you would need some knowledge of genetics and for the dogs to have all their health clearances, and to be aware fo what faults each dog has.

Why would you want to do that????????? Clearly if you ae asking, you do not know alot about breeding, so you shouldn't be doing ti anyway!
Leave it to people who have a better idea!!!!

Physically yes. But no one should ever attempt an inbreeding unless they have a thorough knowledge of the breed, and of their dogs' pedigrees for 3 generations back! Inbreeding must be left to experienced breeders.

Yes,,, but why would you want to??? Both the sire and the get would have to posess OUTSTANDING trates before such a close breeding should even be considdered, and even then you would need to be willing to "cull" any pups that show problems.
That said, it has been done, The intire breed "Llewellin Setter" comes from breeding a brother to a sister.

Inbreeding is not a desirable trait for the offspring. Too many problems with the genetics. Including problems such as with hop displasia.

That's how you get dogs such as pit bulls a bad name. Too much imbreeding that leads dumb, untrainable, mean dogs. Health defects are a major concern. Why would you want to keep skin problems, hip dysplacia, eye problems running in more puppies?

Inbreeding of dogs is undesirable from a genetic standpoint.

Yeah. Cat's can be incestuous- they'll breed with litter-mates, parents... doesn't matter to them when they're in heat.

You can, but why would you want to? That close is bound to bring out the undesirable characteristics of each.
