there is no patch BUT you can edit the settings so you dont have all the notification settings every time you boot up
where the "genuine advantage" icon in the taskbar is,right click this and select "change notification settings",this will re-direct you to a microsoft webpage where you can edit the settings ,there is a option to disable notification settings, you must tick this and then you have to agree to terms 1)you wont be eligble to updates(although you do get critical updates+certain other security updates) 2) you cant download certain software(i.e 7 beta, windows media player 11) although these are avalible in windows vista so you are best waiting 3)are not eligble to free offers...what free offers?
once you have pressed " i agree " you should then restart your p.c and then you will notice all the notifications have dissapeared, but you will still see the icon in the taskbar, but you can disable this by right click taskbar and press hide inactive icons then customize, find the windows genuine icon and set it to allways hide, then press ok
then before you leave the taskbar properties, untick the hide inactive icons box
i have heard there is a patch to get round this, but i ahvent found it yet,and even if you did find it,i would strongly recommend
against using it,as it would have to edit important windows files and dll,s and as it would be a unofficial patch this could mess up your p,c bad style
good luck

hi there you need to go back to the store where you got the computer or software from and ask them for a genuine copy of windows - the reason being these companies by bulk licenses and then distribute them with every pc but the only license that is valid is there main one - if they refuse to give you a genuine copy then contact the trading standards and microsoft as they are selling illegal copies of windows

There is a way around it! Its called getting a genuine copy of windows. Or just find someone who has a genuine copy and make a copy of that. Windows scan can not tell the difference!

Nope. This is controled by an active X that is installed by windows update. It checks with Mircosoft's information about the product key. As this is done in real time over the internet there is no way of patching it on your end. It would have to be done on the Microsoft server which is not going to happen.

Your going to have to BUY it.

I would however wait for Vista to be released.

IF none of the stuff suggested by the others works just contact Microsoft.
They will want to know where you bought it from etc & depending on what they think they will either send you a free disk (it is true my sis got one!), or will sell you a genuine one for 50% of the store price.
Then go round to where ever you purchased the dud from & punch their lights out!

Sadly MS has got wise to this and there's no patch. You can use a dodgy copy of the XP software with a 'fake' code but it only works until you ant or need to update it on the web.

there is no patch
if youre trying to get your updates from windows
go into control panel then automatic updates
set this up then your pc will auto get the updates and you dont have to be validated for this.
it is the only way to get updates without a valid copy of windows
good luck

If you are sure you have a genuine copy then phone Microsoft - their tool sometimes makes this mistake and frightens people into buying Windows again.
