Hell yes we should! If we started imposing fines and/or jail time on illegal alien employers, this issue would be non existent.

This gets to the heart of the issue. Immigrants don't come "take" our jobs. There's a hilarious cartoon on the Maddox "Best Page in the Universe" site that shows some Mexicans hiding behind a dumpster ready to ambush a Wal-Mart employee and "steal" his job.
I think it illustrates what most people miss about the problem. The illegality here is the HIRING of non-citizens. They have the power to employ, and the burden of checking for proper citizenship status. They should bear the brunt of penalties and fines, especially since many do this time and time again.
Consider this: If a restaurant was discovered to be staffed by six year olds, would we arrest the children for violating the child labor act?

HELL yes, they can pay honest wages to honest american workers or pack up and close down the farm. They also have these things called 'tractors' that can dramatically enhance your capacity to harvest your crops. Slavery's over, and that's unfortunately a good analogue to the way a lot of the illegal immigrants live. This IS the 21st century, a guy with some conveyor experience and about 10 acres could fully automate strawberry production. I hate to say it to the migrant workers, but R2-D2's knocking on their back door...further, where's the mexican farms growing food to feed the mexican people?
If we nailed the border shut tomorrow, it'd take em about a year or so to get everything wrenched around to where they could support themselves again, and they'd find ways to conduct lawful trade with other countries and probably double their GDP in 3 years. That'd be a real feather in their caps, and a load off our backs. Here's hoping Mexico's business leaders learn what 'trading vessels' are this year...we grow our own food, they grow their own food, everybody eats, it's all good.
They have 110 million people in their country, well 107 after so many moved north, but they could easily emulate some of our growth and modernization, and have what they're after, IF they combined their efforts nationally. Good luck, there...
I fail to see why we tolerate businesses being run illegally.
I understand profit motive, but there's more to life than making 100 bucks 'on the sly', or a thousand, as the case may be.
Start yanking business permits and operating licenses, and you'll see illegal immigration dry up and blow away in a hot second...

What makes the farmers Illegal?
Yes those 10% (if they do) of farmers should be arrested too who hire illegals-the majority of farmers in America do not like their practices.

YES! It will never stop--and my idea is the gov's want to TALK about stopping it, but can't really ever afford to do it. It will certainly entertain us while we are killing each other in Iraq.
