For those who will ask, my observations are not scientific. My assumptions are from reading archives of YA and following several related questions. On the average, 1 out of 20-25 answers come from atheist mothers, and the majority here are men and/or teens (ACCORDING TO THEIR PROFILES) Why is that? If I am wrong, please feel free to enlighten me.

i think, (as you have pointed out) since this is not a scientific observation, and your demographic numbers are so low, you can't really make a correlation here.
if assuming that they are right, the answer might be that when you have a child the light and power of birth and love come into your life and not only are you greatly affected by it in an emotional and all-encompasing way, but you hope (For GODS SAKE - lol no pun intended) that there is a god that will protect you and your children from all the evil in the world...i'm not sure if that helps...but i am basically an atheist mother, who goes through phases of "unatheism" or "spirituality" whatnot...

I'm another happy atheist mother, but I don't hang out a lot in the religion section of YA because I'm more interested in other things. And my husband is an atheist father who has never looked at YA at all - he has a very full life and isn't interested in answering online questions.

Honestly, I don't think YA is a good place to reach conclusions regarding majority...especially about people's religious beliefs.I look at all of the commentary in this section of YA and either laugh or shake my head...but I rarely respond. I bet a whole lot of people do the same thing. When people believe in something, it's like they feel it's their duty to respond. So doesn't it make sense that if you don't believe in something, you really don't feel a need to comment one way or the other?

Why? Maybe religious women are less likely to work outside of the home; some may feel that the husband is dominant, and the women's role is domestic and childrearing.

Therefore, these women have more times and home, and may be on the computer more often, and therefore seem more prevalent. I don't think it's really the case though.

Hi! I guess I'm the one you mean. Mom and atheist. I guess alot of moms are too busy for YA, or have other websites that they preferr.

Yay! There's more of us in here than I thought. :)

I know some atheist mothers (and fathers, too). They seem to be good parents, on the whole. They usually seem highly interested in their children's education.

I don't know. I'm not an atheist mother because I am infertile at the moment.

i know a few.

im sure there are plenty of atheist mothers. i dont exactly know where youre going with this...so im reluctant to respond...i know a few atheist mothers...so....people assumethat youre not a good mother if youre an atheist and im sure no mother would like to be called a "bad mother" simply because she doesent believe in maical men in the sky.
