Whatever IM client you use you wont be able to connect to popular chat services through it as the schools are blocking ports used by those chat serivices they are not blocking the software itself. One thing you can do is to install some less popular IM client but then your friends have to have it too. You can try mIRC software. It's a very good textual based chat client that connects to IRC servers it's commonly used but dont have support for webcams and voice.

Other thing you can do is to find some web based java chats and chat there.

There's probably a reason your school blocks them. They tend to suck bandwidth and make everyone's internet slow as molasses.

Surely you can go without flapping yer gums (or keyboard as the case may be) for a while.

Or, bite the bullet and pony up for your own internet connection where no one can tell you where and when you can or can't chat.

MSN, IRC, and there is an Open-Source IM called Jabber, but I think it is distributed networking, there is no central contact list server.

Try Meebo which is an online service and you can login to Aim,Yahoo,MSN,Gtalk at the same time all online (webbased).

shouldn't be blocked by your school.
