It depends on what kind of scene you are into. If you are young our into art or art type people go to the Gent area, I believe the main street in that area was called Colley. There is a great independent movie theater there and all kinds of fun stuff to do. If you like parks, try Mount Trashmore in VA Beach, or Fort Story for hiking and trails. The actual beach area in VA beach is expensive in the summer and dead in the winter, however there are all kinds of great little bars in the rest of the city, the kind where everyone knows you after you have been there 2 or 3 times. If you like touble hang out in the Ocean view area, if you have not heard about Ocean view you soon will. I used to be at the free golf course on the Naval Base daily. Then I would head to the East side cafe in Gent, or one of many places in VA beach. I could give you better, more specific places if you knew what kind of scene you are looking for.
