No I think that a person should make the conscious decision whether or not they want to be baptized and dedicate their life to the Lord.

Of course it's not right. People who think that baptising a baby is saving them, need to read a little more of the Bible. The Bible says that the ONLY way to the Father is through Jesus. A person must first ACCEPT Jesus, then they can become baptised. For them to accept, they have to UNDERSTAND what Jesus did for us. Babies don't understand that, they can't even speak yet.
As for the part about babies going to hell......do you really think that God would allow that to happen?? That would be unfair, seeing that babies don't understand........God is a fair God.

it is not right. the bible says believe and be baptised and bapitsm is the out ward sign of what has happened inward (you have let god into you life and heart) it is the inward and not the baptism that saves them. most babies that are baptised don't actually become christians as a result of it it is mearly the parents saying they want them to or the parents doing something they feel they are supposed to do.

Obilee,
It's one of those things that parents do to feel good about something, and some churches to ritualize and make records of things. There is nothing that I can remember in the Bible to support the view.
On the flipside of the coin, it can be done as an object of faith for the parents. As in one reason for Baptism is to testify to all that are present that this child is the Lords.

Everyone comes out of the water bag when they are first born into this world.
Jesus said to bring the little children unto Him, for thus is the Kingdom of God. And He blessed the children.
I believe it is important that we dedicate our children to the LORD to receive a special blessing from Him.
In John 1 it writes every child brought forth into this world has seen the Light of Life. If they die they go straight to Heaven.

No, it's not correct. People need to reach an age where they can 1. make an informed choice (not have ALL the information or facts, but know who it is they are supporting), 2. know the difference between right and wrong 3. understand that there are consequences to their actions - sometimes the consequences are good, sometimes they're not. To me that age is around 8, however I was baptized into one church as an infant and into another at 19.

no i dont agree with baptism unless its the want of the person. (though i understand where the idea came from that unbaptized would go to hell if dead, and parents feared for childrens afterlife in the event they died) however, baptism is a symbol of starting over (being "reborn") and this should be the persons decision. (babys just been born they shouldnt be REBORN soonthereafter). this is a symbol of when you leave your sinful life and start to live as christ did. (at least try as best you can)

I have never found anything in the bible stating that babies should be baptized. I think all babies and children are Gods and there is never any doubt in my mind that if a baby or child dies that they would go to heaven. I think if it was important, then Jesus would have been baptized at birth.

If the parents want to raise their children in a certain religion, they should baptize at birth. The child can choose not to get Confirmed at a later date, which is the passage into adulthood.
