Ha! Never thought of it like that...I guess you are kinda of right, BUT is a way of disregarding the validity of the previous statement. But is a cop-out, huh...never thought of it like that.

Sometimes this is true BUT, sometimes it is false. I think cookies taste great, and would love to eat them all day long, BUT they make me fat. Learning a foreign language is rewarding, BUT it's hard work. I tried to get here on time, BUT I got stuck in traffic. The word but is used to join two contrasting ideas, not necessarily a true statement and a false one.

Like most human statements, it's true sometimes. Some people prefer to put the truth first and the lie last, as in, "Yes, I smoked pot, BUT I didn't inhale it!"

yes BUT life is not always that simple and some issues have more dimensions than two and you will not understand what is beneath the surface if you will only look at the surface, and not underwater

"But" is an "and" word- the only difference is that "but" comes with an exception. BUT, you have a point- alot of the time "but" can translate into, "Yeah. I lied,".
