My favorite right now for around $20 is 3 Rings Shiraz from famous Aussie winemaker Chris Ringland.

Be careful not to try a wine because someone else likes it - that doesn't always mean you will. Find a wine shop locally that has a knowledgeable person that can tell you what each one taste like, not if they like it. Or check out some on-line wine reviews and look at the description more than the scores. If the descriptions sounds like something you would like to try then give it a shot.

Also since you like Shiraz you should take a stab at some Syrah's from Cali or France. Same grape different name.

I need to tell you that my all time favorite is "Bleasdale Vineyards Frank Potts Red Wine 2003" It is a blend of 74% Cabernet Sauvignon, 15% Malbec, and 11% Petit Verdot. I know there is no Shiraz, but you will LOVE LOVE LOVE it.... I got 6 bottle for about $22 each, but searching for it right now, I see it at $17 a pop...

I personally have fallen in love with this wine by Kendall Jackson called "Collage." It's actually a blend of cabernet and shiraz. Absolutely delicious flavor.

Also, I surprised myself one day by comparing a so-called cheap red ($3.99 for a bottle) to a pricier one. Guess what? The cheap bottle (a screw-top at that) was just as flavorful. It makes a wonderful alternative to expensive wine for making sangria as well.

If you want to spoil yourself or simply splurge, go for the very best and perhaps oldest Shiraz on the market: HERMITAGE from the lower Rhone valley in France, the wine that Napoleon drank. Make sure that it is at least five years old and let it breathe for about one hour before enjoying.

"La Bodega" is farmed and fermented on the grounds of DFW Airport. Their merlot and cab are both the best wines I've ever tasted.

I can say this. Jewel has a large selection and very good prices. So I'd recommended starting there.
