consider the large number of terrorist attacks we suffered from 1992 to 2000 and the obvious attack months into Bush's first term(inherited).

reply to jaike: You're answering a question I didn't ask. If this question is simple, can you adjust your answer to address the defense policies/security achievements of the Clinton years?
I'm not looking for enlightenment as to why we're at war. I'm not asking about religion or political theory. Simply... How did the commander in chief of our armed forces respond to the terrorist attacks of the 90's?

there were no defense achievements.
After the 1993 World Trade Center bombing, President Clinton promised that those responsible would be hunted down and punished.
After the 1995 bombing in Saudi Arabia, which killed five U.S. military personnel; Clinton promised that those responsible would be hunted down and punished.
After the 1996 Khobar Towers bombing in Saudi Arabia, which killed 19 and injured 200 U.S. military personnel; Clinton promised that those responsible would be hunted down and punished.
After the 1998 bombing of U.S. embassies in Africa, which killed 224 and injured 5,000; Clinton promised that those responsible would be hunted down and punished.
After the 2000 bombing of the USS Cole, which killed 17 and injured 39 U.S. sailors; Clinton promised that those responsible would be hunted down and punished.
He also allowed the transfer of Nuclear secrets to China and gave away the ICBM satellite technology to China in the form of Communications Technology.
Wonderful guy huh?

Destroying Yugoslavia, bombing asprin factories, starving a million Iraqis with sanctions. And bombing on an almost daily basis Iraq for "no fly zone" violations.
And supporting (as Bush continues to do!) Al Quaida in the form of the terrorist Kosovo Liberation Army, which was backed by Bin Laden.

Questions like this are oversimplified. And all the answers you get are either sarcastic or oversimplified.
If you really want to know why we are at war in the Middle East, you're gonna need to go way beyond Bill Clinton. The chain of events leading up to the inevitable 9-11 attacks were in the making 20 years. America's support of the Jewish nation of Israel also pulls many strings in the development of our current quandary.
We like to blame our leaders. Our terrorist enemies could care less who leads us. That hate AMERICA...not parties or people. They hate the idea of a free nation.
Do your own research. No one here is gonna enlighten you about religion or politics. All they will do is praise you or smite you based on how you word your question.

Here is one of Mr. Clinton's defense policies. "I did not have sexually relations with that woman." And I believe he used smear the credibility with the other accusers. Those are the only defense/security achievements I can think of.

Clinton surrendered to Bin Laden.
He wanted to be friends.
Laden made a clumsy fat fool out of Clinton.
And then killed thousands of Americans.

Proving that cruise missiles are useless against terrorism compared to boots on the ground.
He also proved that satellite intel is pretty useless compared to human intel against shadow groups and terrorists.

His defense policy? Where where you? His defense was, "I did not have sex with that woman." If anyone gets too close to the truth--whack em or bomb and asprin factory in the Sudan to divert attention. That was his policy and he is sticking to it.

Appeasement and apathy are his legacies. His defense time was strictly to handle the Lewinsky scandal. What a waste of human flesh he is.
