Whenever you boil down anyone's belief in god it always rests on something they call "faith." "I know there's a god because i have faith" they say. However doesn't having faith in something mean you are accepting something as truth based simply on a feeling that it's true? How is this any different than saying "i guess there's a god?"

Furthermore how can you gain knowlege from faith when faith is but a personal feeling or experience with no evidential grounds?

What makes it better is that you can find a whole bunch of other people making the same guess. Once enough people make the same guess, it becomes truth in the eyes of people too afraid to think for themselves.

Faith is encompasses spiritual, mental and emotional . When you belief is strong enough you work in these 3 elements together focussed on a common goal..so your probability of success is high given the 3 faceted commitment!

Guess is just a mental opinion with little or no commitment.

So faith is a personal state with no evidential ground but it gives the state of mind to achieve what you(Note you) think is impossible . The belief in God works in a like manner , given that science has not been successful in proving everything ,mankind knows that there is something greater than science out there that
we must acknowledge...every culture (no matter how reclusive ) shares that sentiment....

Faith is what a dog has in its beloved master!its personal ......

I'm not a big believer in faith myself, but I would have to say because a) faith is generally a belief (or guess if you will) held with others, so you feel empowered in the same way being in any community is empowering, and b) faith is usually a way to categorize something very uncomfortable and hard to understand, such as creation or death. Life can be very hard to deal with if you focus on such issues and believe the validity of your existence hinges on having answers to those questions.

faith isn't a feeling that something is true, it's a belief in your mind. it is a mentality in your head that something exists. that can only result from a desicion to think that way, not from a feeling.
However, I do agree that faith-based faith is not a full faith. The bible says faith without works is dead. and I agree. I have seen many miracles done inn the name of the God of the bible. For me, that is proof of God's existence. (I'm talking about real miralces, peopel being healed from cancer and AIDS, the blind seeing the lame walking, etc. I'm a missionary)
So, I have faith that God exists, and the works of God confirm it for me, and my faith is not dead. There is no need for me to guess if there's a God.

Good question. Faith is in all religions but Christianity puts more into it. When I was a Christian I never questioned it because thats all I knew. It had to be true. Then when I looked into Islam I was confused. Islam do not solely rely on faith. Faith was all I had to go by my whole life so I had no clue how to process this new information. Islam requires you to earn your way by good deeds and worship. The Quran has things in it that there is no way they could of know 1400 years ago, they didn't have the tecnology to know these things. The Quran does not just say have faith and you will get to heaven and be with God. It tells how to live your life a complete set of rules that has taken government hundreds of years to make, but the Quran was sent down in a small time period. So to me Islam does not require you to only rely on faith to believe, it gives you the Quran to prove Gods existence though science and knowledge. In Islam faith is not what makes you believe, faith is what you do with the belief. The belief comes before the faith. The belief in one God and only one God should be in your heart before the faith even comes into play. But you need the faith to make you follow the belief to the best of your ability. If you faith is low that does not mean you don't believe if just means you don't have enough in your heart to follow it correctly. So to increase your faith you increase your good deeds and worship, but that does not effect the belief, because the belief is solid and does not solely rely on faith. Now that does not mean that there are somethings that we may not understand and we need to have faith in God to follow his way with out question. But that is because God is not like us he has wisdom far beyond us and we can't understand his extreme wisdom so we should have faith in His wisdom. But like I said before we don't need faith solely to believe in Him. I hope I have explained this well. I am no scholar, and am not good at explaining things sometimes, so please forgive me if I did not make it clear.

You have a very good point. Too bad so many people are so brainwashed that they cant open their own mind and ask themselves these questions.

Ohhh give me a thumbs down on this one.

I would rather be a good person and think for myself. Rather than feel like I belong to some weird cult that is run by the church (man) and is telling me how to live my life especially when a majority of the leaders are corrupt themselves.

True faith does not come over night (although some claim it does)

The bible's definition of faith - is the "assured expectation of things hoped for, although not beheld"

To me, that means that I have a sure expectation of the things coming in the future. I arrived to the sureness on the basis of what has already happened in the past.

It comes from study, examination, meditation, and observance, not only on what one reads, but one sees in the world around them. Archaeology is one outside source that confirms my faith in what the bible says.

I could go on and give bible and secular references.......

Feelings change based on circumstances and mood. Faith is believing in something even though you can't see or feel or even explain it. You know the wind exists even though you can't see it or really explain it, but you can see and feel it's effects. With god it is the same. I know He is there, not because I see Him or feel Him, but I feel His effect and power in my life. I am very aware of the strength He gives me and His love for me. It is not a feeling, because sometimes I feel so alone, yet I know He is there caring deeply and personally for me.

QUite simply because faith is the substance of things hoped for and the evidence of things not seen. Man always wants to believe it when they see it. However if G-D is all around, then what needs to be proved?

True Christian Faith is not a "guess" it is based on fact. The fact is the personal relationship between God and the individual. that is something that can not be understood by one who dose not also have such a relationship with God.
