I recently read a book by Wes Burgess who is an M.D and a Ph.D. He said: "generic drugs are usually as good as brand names, but I have worked with patients who clearly did better on brand name medications, which are usually more consistent in potency and are manufactured to higher standards." (p. 76 of

I had always been told that there was no difference between two drugs because they were manufactured by the same company. I asked my pharmacist and he agreed with Dr. Burgess.

Are you seeing one doctor for all these problems? Is he the one who gave you all these diagnoses? I'm assuming it's a psychiatrist that you saw. Also, if you're on Medicaid, are you going to a clinic for counseling or just for medication refills? Do you see the same doctor each time? I think you really need to see someone else for an extensive work-up of your conditions. All the things you list can also be symptoms of other mental disorders--including bipolar. Dr. Burgess' book lists several different checklists of symptoms for bipolar moods that you might want to read for yourself.

He has a website that you can check out: www.wesburgess.yourmd.com. I'm not saying it will give you the answers you need, but it might provide you with the questions you need to be asking for your own well-being and safety.

There is no difference. I had used both in the past too and checked up on that. It is just a different manufacterer and much cheaper. Medicaid won't really give you a choice when there is a generic available, that's what you get.

Not to get too nosy, but who is diagnosing you with panic disorder, depression AND adhd...it could be something else with all 3 of those coming from the same illness. Bipolar disorder can be diagnosed as depression and adhd instead of what it actually is, and panic attacks can be a symptom of bipolar too. Just trying to help....ask your doctor if you think that could be a possibility.

The difference between brand and generic is usually only inert ingredients - and price. And - you should check whether you should be taking zoloft when you are taking wellbutrin - they may be a bad "mix" - zoloft is an effective anti-depressant.

Usually the difference between brand name is generic is the price. That applies to everything...even food. Same ingredients, etc but just made by someone else & it costs much less.

Well, it depends on you. Technically there is no difference in generics typically versus the name brand. I think though, but don't quote me on this, but its like making a steak, if you start with a good cut the finished product will come out much better. So I think the name brand company use more quality stuff in theirs.

Active ingredients are the same so don't worry about the change.
