I have a $150 road bike and it works fine for me. I don't race and I ride to stay fit. What are the advantages of a more expensive, lets say $2000 road bike if any? What would I gain if I get a bike like that ?

The $2000 will be lighter, faster and easier to ride but if you are riding to stay fit those advantages would be conterproductive. Stick with the cheap bike and be happy with the knowledge that you are getting a better workout on your heavier and less-aerodynamic bike.

Thats good a .15K bike works for you. The $2k bike, most of the time will be lighter overall. Meaning the frame and it's components are made of light weight, durable material and is made with more precision. The $2k bike will track better and be more nimble, maybe too nimble for general riding that you are doing. There is a lot of technology and R&D data that might go into an expensive bike. Some of that techn. trickled down from competitive events like Tour De France, Ironman etc.. The gains would have to be "Looks" most have good graphics. The comfort level increases with the frame material used. More gearing selection,10 rear cogs are the norm now. Less rolling resistance, which means less energy to go forward because the bearings in the hubs, the high quaility drivetrain, high pressure narrow tires which means again less friction, go faster and farther.

Material and workmanship are the main things. It's what differentiates a Toyota from a Lexus. They both get you from point A to B, but the ride is completely different. You will find lighter materials in more expensive bikes, which will make those uphill climbs a lot easier and will allow you to concentrate on your ride more than on the comfort of your ride. Expensive bikes will usually come with a rock-solid warranty as well.

Not just the weight, it's also the quality of components used on the 2K bike that sets it apart. This means less time and $$ for maintenance at the bike shop.

If you have to ask you don't deserve one. Does your bike have a basket on the front, and white wall tires, perhaps a little bell thingy? What was the purpose of your question? Did you expect a serious answer? Let me guess. Your a bus and buffet kind of guy, right?
What would you gain from a more expensive bike? An appreciation of your hard work researching, test riding, consulting, and finally purchasing a bike worthy of your time and hard earned money. I almost forgot..... that contempt feeling of blowing past someone that's riding a $150 bike. Ya, I got the jist of your question.

better, lighter, stronger frame. Better softer more comfortable and ergonomically correct seat, handlebars, brakes, pedals, sproket, wheels, tires, the reflectors are probably better and easier to see at night.

Basically if you only spent 150 to 200 for a bike, everything but the price is better on the other bike.
