had a couple of answers saying that I had absolutely no right to break any laws of God. I've been wondering what that nice lil place where catholics go to to admit their sins is for then and where the thing with the free-will fits in

People do a lot of things they have no right to do.

Free will means you have the option to make the right choice and have the option to make the wrong choice. Free will doesn't negate any possible consequences associated with your decisions. It's the freedom to make decisions, not the freedom to do "whatever" without having to face up to the repercussions.

Just because you CAN rob a bank doesn't mean you have the RIGHT to rob a bank. Ability doesn't equal permissibility. The law says "don't steal", you steal anyway, you get thrown in jail. Same way with God's "law". You break the "no stealing" rule, you get thrown in "eternal jail".

Free will is simple.
You are presented with choices every day.
Some choices are bigger than others.
and you have to chose, get up or stay in bed.
Go to work or call in sick.

The laws of moses are still in effect, do you shave are do you keep the corners of your beard square?

If you shave (like me) you have broken a (the) law, and that is enough to send me to hell!
If I lived in the law I would be lost, there is no way that I can receive forgiveness for the laws that I have broken, and am there for damned!

But I live in Christ, and in his light, I am free of the yolk of the law. I am not free of the law!
So every morning I break the law, and will live in Christ!

None of have the right to break the laws of God.

But most of us (me included) do. We are humans and we are weak, yes we do sin.

Catholics go to Confession to confess our sins to Jesus. It gives us strength to try to "go in peace and sin no more"

It helps our free will to be free to not sin.

Good Luck and God Bless you!

God gives you free will to break his laws or not.
Now breaking your country's laws is different...you have no free will there.
