I thought it was only the christians and the jews followed the ten commandments. I know that Moses is a prophet for both religions. They both believe in the old testament (hebrew bible) the differences start with christians going by the new testament as well when jesus came into play. I do not know a lot about Islam.

Muslims, Christians, and Jews all read the Old Testament books, so the 10 commandments are a part of their belief. The difference comes about when you get to Abraham. The Muslims think God's promise to Abraham comes down through his son, Ishmael. The Jews and Christians believe God's promise comes down through his other son, Isaac. Then you come to Christ. Christians believe He was the Messiah, Muslims think He was a great teacher, and Jews think He was a criminal. After this, Mohammed comes on the scene. He claims to be God's prophet. Christians don't accept that fact because why would God need to send another prophet after His Son had came to pay the death penalty for sin. Jews don't accept Mohammed because they see nothing in the scriptures that tells them that God would send such a person. Basically, it boils down to this: Muslims believe the Old Testament and the Koran, Jews believe the Old Testament (Torah), Christians believe the Old Testament and the New Testament.

Because if humans had six fingers on each hand, you can bet there'd be 12 Commandments.
If I ever run into Moses, I'll ask him. And about Moses "knowing" God personally, did you mean that in the Biblical sense?

Moses was a Jew! And he didn't know G-d personally, since G-d is not a personality...The commandments came from Judaism to every other religion and they are followed (in general) because they make sense and are humane.

I haven't researched this in a while but from memory...
The split in the two religions came from Abraham's two sons. Since Moses was before Abraham then both religions have him in their versions
Jews and Christians trace themselves back thru Isaac
Muslims trace themselves back thru Ishmael
BTW, I do believe in Moses :)

Christians put Jesus above the 10 Commandments. The First of the 10 will tell you who God is and who to follow.

Yet Jesus told them directly not to follow the ten commandments and gave them two new ones. I have never figured out why christians want the ten posted in public places. Jews I could understand, christians, not so much

Even if you do not believe in God you'd have to admit that the ten commendments would be a fairly good attempt in founding a system of law.

10 commandments are from the old testament for christians, which is the Torah for jews. Mohammed claims to have been told to write that in the Qu'ran, too.
