None.
You need to put in a lot of training time and the dog does receive a shock. If it's not done properly, the dog can misinterpret the shock and develop behavior problems. Some dogs will run right through the wire so fast that they don't get shocked until they are long gone. Then they can't come home again.
There's nothing to prevent other dogs from coming onto your property and attacking yours.
There's nothing to prevent a child from coming onto your property and being injured by the dog (even if he just knocks the child down saying "hi"!) You may be liable, because the law says you have provided an "attractive nuisance".
There's nothing to prevent someone from stealing your dog to use as pit-bull bait or for lab experiments.
Personally, I prefer a real, solid fence.

I have to second motion what pingme has said. I've had the e-fence for 5 years ,and i'm telling you it's the best thing i've ever done for my dogs. I had it professionally installed by Dog watch Co. They came out and trained my dogs, and the whole system is warranteed for life .I have one female who's very dog on dog aggressive. I didn't believe the system would work for her.I can gaurantee had I put up a chain link ,Tigger would've jumped the fence, dug under the fence, climbed the fence, rambed the fence, anything to get out to get at another dog. She would've succeeded. Not once has she tried with the e-fence.She'll run up and bark ,run the fence line ,and that's it. She can't see the boogey man who will shock her if she gets to close. She hasn't been shocked in 4 years. She wont test it ,and the same for Piper. If you train your dog correctly and get the right system ,it works. lastly with the e-fence ,a big plus for me ,you never have to worry about gates being left open. I hear more horror stories of how dogs got out because someone left the gate open. I would hate to have that kind of a worry. My dogs have the whole yard ,an acre front and back.I don't have to worry about no gates. On my property I have posted front and back ,no tresspassing signs.
It's not the type of system to leave your dogs out unattented.I don't think any fence is safe enough for that.Your dog should always be in the home when you're not home. That shouldn't be an issue with people. As far as children coming onto your property ,their parents should be watching them so they don't come onto your property.

Dont listen to any of these other people that answered!!! Almost everyone in my neighborhood uses the invisible fence. It is amazing and is super easy to train your dog to use. And what does it matter if other dogs can still get in your yard they can do that if you put your pup out on a leash. The invisible fence shock is equivalent to a static shock you get if you rub your feet on carpet and touch something. I asked many vets about them before I got one and all of them highly recommend the invisible fence. Plus your dog will be able to run around and work off some of their energy.
Good Luck:)

I understand that they will keep your dog from running out of the yard, but they will NOT keep other dogs from running INTO your yard and picking a fight with your dog. For that reason most dog owners use ordinary fences instead.
If you are really ONLY concerned about your own dog leaving the yard, ask at a local home improvement or hardware store, and they can probably recommend someone who installs these things.

Terrible things.... I wouldn't put my dog through that pain!!! Train it to stay in the yard or keep it with you when you are outside!!
