When can my 13mth old have peanut butter? There are no food allergies in our family. There is so much confusion about when he can have it. I have heard from 1 to 3 years. Does anyone really know?

The general consensus is to wait until after the child is 2 before giving them food such as eggs and peanut butter. These foods are the ones that most children have allergies to, so to help avoid having your child develop an allergy to these foods it is suggested to wait. With Peanut Butter, there is also the choking hazard. But you will be the best judge as to when that would be appropriate for your child.

Do not believe that just because you don't have allergies means your child will not. The CDC has recently reported that childhood allergies are on the rise. So be careful. If you are really concerned, consult your pediatrician. They can tell you best.

First Really understand the vital thing you can do by raising the child on a VEGAN diet.

Read the labels on all foods, even peanut butters. There are many natural peanut butters out there which just contain peanuts. You do not have to get ones with salt either, you can get just "plain PEANUT" type peanut butter. I would be careful of the "choking" hazard. As that is the main issue when giving a young child something sticky like that. and so as to say ~ you may have to use REALLY small I mean really small bites. KEY WORD ~ VERY SMALL

It is important to know what was used to grow the PEANUTs that went into making the peanut butter, as some children(adults as well) are hypersensitive to the fertilizers which they react to because they sucked up into the peanut.

My doctor said that my daughter could eat anything at her 1st birthday!

My family has no allergies at all, so I didn't worry about stuff. My daughter eats smooth peanut butter sandwiches all the time! I like to buy the Jif with less sugar. I think it tastes the same. Our daycare does not allow peanut butter so we bought some sunflower seed butter. It looks the same but tastes different. It is ok, but not that great.

It is hard to come up with good healthy food ideas for toddlers.

I am not sure of any rule of age about peanut butter; how ever I would rather be safe than sorry at that age. I did give my kids peanut butter and jelly mixed at about 18 mos. I didn't want to take the chance of them choking on it straight. (I have 9 children and it worked for all of them.)

I started giving my son peanut butter at age 2 but now he is 16 and eats nothing with peanuts in it.

I never went by those crazy rules. Did our parents have so many rules to follow. NO! We didn't die.My doctor didn't believe those rules either. Even if he did I wouldn't have followed them. Common sense is the best thing to follow. Unfortunately some people are serously lacking in that department. My son was eating everything before he was 1. Never had any problems with anything.

just as long as it is smooth to start with i gave it to my 3 daughters as about 12 months but did not progress to the crunchy variety until they were about 3. But word of warning start off with a small amount as it does not always run that just because none of your family have allergies your child won't.

You should wait quite a while - I waited until after 2 and still I rarely give it to my twins who are almost 3. Giving them it too early is how allergies develop. Same with fish.

why don't you have him test it and see how he react to it
watch him closely to see if any allergy reaction occur
if none and he like it let him have some once in a while
