This is the widely held belief since in the last moment of your life you committed not only murder, but took the place of God Himself in choosing life and death so you broke the 1st commandment also.
I have spoken to clergymen who say that there is some consolation in the thought that there are always a few seconds for which the person may repent and make peace with God before they are gone to the beyond.
Also, the lady above me is incorrect perhaps her version does not use the exact word "hell" but they all say either "Sheol" or "Gehenna" or "the lake of fire forever". All are presumed to be synonyms for hell.

No! Suicide is not the unpardonable sin. Jesus made the truth very clear that the unpardonable sin was blasphemy against the Holy Ghost which is a sin which can't be committed in this day and age as the circumstance under which it can be committed don't exist any more. I never cease to be amazed at the number of Bibles in this world and the same number of people who won't read one for themselves (Judging from all the different answers your question received) Blasphemy against the Holy Ghost firstly requires a two fold heavenly witness and in the face of such positive proof, to then accredit the work of the Holy Spirit to be the work of Satan. Such was the case when Jesus was casting out demons and he had told everyone that he was the Son of God (first witness) He further elaborated by stating that the works that he did were not his own but his Fathers' in heaven (second witness) Now when they saw it and heard it they openly and publicly denounced the miracle as being the work of Satan. Jesus made the truth abundantly clear when he said that it he had not done the work among them that no other had done, then they had not had sin but now they have seen both me and my Father and hated both me and my Father and now they have no cloak (covering or forgiveness) for their sin. The answers to every question can be found in the Bible and I would encourage everyone to spend some time every week in good old fashion Bible study.

As for the answer that somebody else told you about not finding Hell in the Bible so therefore there is no Hell.........What a goofball. They obviously have not read much of the Bible. Anyway, Jesus HIMSELF talked more about Hell than Heaven when he was here and the Bible does talk about it. The translations are Gehenna, Hades, Sheol, and Tartarus. So, with that said...........God says in the bible not to kill in the 10 commandments. The bible also keeps quiet on the subject for the most part. One can draw that it is not the "unpardonable sin".....only blasphemy is. Check out the story about Samson....he pretty much kills himself and it was for the Lords sake. I don't think he went to Hell. Also, someone who does such a selfish thing is not happy ultimately for whatever reason, and the Bible does speak about that. It tells us how we can be happy if we are not. Its thru Jesus...His only begotten Son. So, its not unpardonable, it is against his word since He is LIFE.......I'm not sure. But I do know that God has a great plan for us and suicide is not a way out.
God Bless and I hope this possibly helps.
I draw all of my thoughts from the Word of God so I'm sorry if they did not make sense.

Commiting suicide has genuinely no longer something with the position you spend eternity. no longer something. I examine the Bible through each 365 days, its no longer in there. Now suicide in no longer the answer, you've heard the former declaring, God hates a coward. no longer having the braveness to face up and face your issues is what God has a topic with. Suicide is a negative sin and that i do not see how someone may be saved and do this kind of ingredient. How might want to someone say they're a Christian and homicide themselves. basically about no longer attainable, except for sure something mentally breakes down inwhich there is not any longer something no one can do about that.

Hell and Heaven are fiction, just like Greek Mythology. If death is not the end then the likelihood of being punished for committing suicide is a matter of speculation.

No one can be sure. The only actual way to know is to test it. I'm in no way telling you to commit suicide, but no one can be 100% sure you'll go to hell because no one's committed suicide and come back to prove the statement true or false.

No one can say for sure because no one's ever been to Hell and lived to tell the tale. Same with Heaven, but we'll just assume what our father's tell us, and our father's fathers, and our father's father's fathers...
Anyway, I believe that you would not go to Hell for committing suicide, unless you carry your sins with you.
What I heard from a teacher was that in the Middle Ages, many serfs were so miserable that they would go to the church, be rid of their sins, and then kill themselves. Dead serfs can't grow stuff for the church to sell, (the churches of the Middle Ages were highly irreverent) so the priests got together annd decided that suicide was as bad as murder.

Catholics believe that suicide is an unforgivable sin and that committing suicide automatically condemns you to hell. Protestants don't believe that. Personally, I don't believe in hell and think that if someone wants to off themselves they should be allowed to do so without criticism.

Whoever told you that must be able to communicate with the dead. Did he ask a person who had committed suicide and told him about their experience in hell? Don't let other people tell YOU what goes on in the afterlife. Decide for yourself. But don't commit suicide please, if that's why you're asking this. :)

You don't automatically go to hell. First you have to fill out the biggest pile of paperwork you've ever seen. Then you must stand in a series of unimaginably long queues (even longer than, for example, those for the better rides at Disneyland on Labor Day Weekend).
You then find out you've been in the wrong queues and you must re-queue in different, equally-long queues, where you eventually find yourself face-to-face with the universe's rudest bureaucrats, whom you must try to charm and cajole into signing, initialing, stamping, and attaching special watermarked Post It Notes to each of your sheets, but only in certain secret, specific places none to neither you nor them, but only to their supervisors, who are out sick playing golf.
You must then carry your entire accumulation of approved and processed paperwork across a realistic recreation of the tarmac at one of the main terminals of L.A. International Airport during heavy jet traffic, without losing a single sheet, and deposit the whole whack at the Gates of Hell. There you receive a ticket that says PLACE FACE UP ON DASH. It is then, and only then, that you are finally escorted to your personal car dashboard, where you must place your face and keep it there for all eternity while the radio plays Neil Diamond's "Longfellow's Serenade" over and over.
When people learn how much bother all this is, many of them decide to believe in reincarnation, which allows them to be released and reborn. (It does seem a lot easier. Personally, I don't think I could tolerate the Neil Diamond.)
