I take A LOT of pictures with my cellphone camera and with a little digital camera I have.
My advise, look at professional photos and take A LOT of photos.

go to the fabric store and buy some pretty fabric, cover a chair with it, and have him pose in the chair. Could also work with a nice blanket or sheet. I like the idea of taking him to the park that someone else said. Sometimes natural pictures are so much better than posed ones.

I have used some baby blankets and other blankets that are nice looking and colorful. You can go to a lake or a park. Maybe a waterfall if you have one closeby!

Flower patches are great too! Good luck and I hope that these help!

Go to a local park--the great outdoors has the best lighting--esp. late afternoon. Some nice trees or bushes in the background would be lovely.

the best backgrounds are natural ones, i think. go to the park or in your backyard. the best at-home picture of my daughters are by a tree in our yard. I've had so many compliments on it and people ask where i got it done!

Look for nice outdoors settings. Trees, flowers, water.

Hang up a sheet or plain blanket as a backdrop.

Make sure there aren't a lot of distracting things behind him.
