PROPOSED PRAYER BAN FOR WOMEN:
JIDDAH, Saudi Arabia -- Officials are considering an unprecedented proposal to ban women from performing Muslim prayers in the immediate vicinity of Islam's most sacred shrine in Mecca. Some say women are already being kept away.
The issue has raised a storm of protest, with some women saying they fear the move is meant to restrict women's roles in Saudi society even further.
But the religious authorities behind the proposal insist its real purpose is to lessen the chronic problem of overcrowding.
It was un-clear why the step was being considered now, but officials say they have growing concerns about overcrowding.
The chief of the King Fahd Institute for Hajj Research, which is
behind the plan, said the restrictions are already in place.
But Sheik Youssef Khzeim, deputy chief of the Presidency of the Two Holy Mosques Affairs, denied the reports.
"This is still a study and nothing has been implemented," Khzeim said.

I m not a religious beliver but i do belive on god and i have not even read 'the Quran' also, however, i would strongly OPPOSE this kind of ban on anyone.
If they are woried about "overcroweding" they should controll people by giving them more room and setting up some alternatives but NOT BY THIS.

Yes, I agree. It may be tough on them at first, but after a generation or two, the women in Jiddah will be the only intelligent creatures there. You just got to bite the bullet sometimes and look at the big picture. It'll free up a lot of their time for more important things, like having a life.

I read this yesterday and posted a similar question.
The Muslim response was that they give more rights to women than Christians or Jews do.
I don't think many people buy that though.
There are also many local Mosques that do not allow Women. It is true. In others where women are allowed, they have to sit out of sight, and normally behind one way glass. Even in many US Mosques.
So sad....
Peace!

Being an American and having been given an unprecedented amount of freedom by our government (old and new), I find it ridiculous and mysogynistic...but, that's me, as an American. I wasn't born into that culture, country or religion. I do feel, however, that regardless of culture, country or religion, no man or woman has the right to infringe upon the rights and freedoms of another person. Whether you believe we were created by God, or by just the right biological/evoutionary conditions, the fact of the matter remains that no man on Earth has higher physical order than any other man or woman.
I do fear the onslaught of further restrictions imposed by the fundamentalist leaders of this religion, and especially in their attempt to bring it to American and influence our rules, laws and customs.

In Japan they hav carried out segregation of guy and woman boarding a custom. Do u imagine it is discrimination. Mecca is overcrowded and very2 warm in the course of the hajj, and that i believe u agree that maximum lady have a tendency to be weaker than guy psychologically and means. If the positioning is too overcrowding , is it extra appropriate to guard the lady first no count number what their age is. U in basic terms assume Islam discriminate lady. lady in Islam is liberated in view that europe is in its darkish a lengthy time period with it inquisition. there is circumstances of discrimination, although that's because of the subculture of those human beings , no longer in Islam eg; in Pakistan. lady in u.s. is purely liberated from the early 1900s , progressively until eventually eventually now. And u who has been in the international for a years, dare to accuse Islam who has liberated lady for more desirable than 1400 years.

Well, you don't need a mosque or a church to pray. Perhaps someone somewhere will build something for women, and the women can keep the men out. Fair is fair.

Yes, I'm opposed to laws passed to ban people from talking to the air, no matter how silly that is.
Religions are a great detriment to society. They make people pass nutty laws that cause needless division.
