trying to put God first, family second, and "me" way down at the bottom.

Wow, this is a tough one. In my case, I'm embracing it, but, at the same time, I do care for what's going on around me. I'm concerned about the enviroment, for instance, and I try to do my best at not making things worse.
But I think, especially in big cities, there's not a sense of community anymore. We do feel the need to be more selfish in life these days because the world is much more competitive.
There's a good side and a bad side to it. I think a little selfishness can be a good thing. I mean, if you don't have kids or something.

That boring old "Me Generation" tag was leveled against youth back in the 1960s (I know, I was there), and for some reason, it keeps hanging around for every subsequent generation. And each person who uses the phrase thinks they've invented a new catchword. But it's pretty worn out by now.

If anything, I think this generation isn't enough of a "Me Generation". Self-reliance? Early independence? Absolute responsibility? These things don't seem to be stressed enough. It seems to me that since the 1980s, parents have been outrageously over-protective and don't allow their children to get out of the house and make their own mistakes. But that's just my opinion.

From what I understand about the meaning of the "me generation" is that it is a generation of self importance.
Some people think it's wrong for a person to be into self importance, but it's not the same thing as being "egotistical" by any means. Every human being needs to watch out for number one, that person or self is the most important thing in the world. Obviously, you need to satisfy your needs before trying to tackle anyone elses.
I think this is healthy, it keeps us aware of who we are and what we need-ie the basics of living; food, water, sleep. Once a person establishes themselves they can begin to actually help other people, otherwise their help would be misdirected and possibly no help at all. The sick can't help the sick, therefor take care of yourself first and then your neighbour.
It's not illogical, its simple survival. This is how animals behave in the wild.. and aren't we but mere animals?

I think we are raised to think "What's in it for me" so once a day, I try to do something selfless for someone else. Like help a co-worker with something, or let someone have right of way when i'm driving home, or getting over to let the person pass. You'll find your one a day goal will become a good habit and before long you are doing more than once a day.

I try to share what I have, and to promote compassion and caring about others among my friends and acquaintances.
Don't get the idea I'm a goody-goody. I have a temper and there are things that drive me crazy, just like anyone else, and I'm selfish about some things.

I remember that I am not the only person on Earth. And that everyone has the same rights as I do because they are human beings too.
