Have you ever had to take out the trash every time, all the time, because the other person just wouldn't? Like they just stack the trash up as though building a teetering tower? Tell me I'm not the only one!

Oh man, like a billion times. I have yet to win. One of the worst was a girl I lived with in college drank a whole bottle of aftershock and threw up in the trash. Now, I was ordinarily the one who took care that things were clean, but i put my foot down. I was NOT going to deal with cleaning that out. (it was a wastePAPER basket and didn't have a bag in it.) four days later, we have smelly cinnamon puke still. I kept staying somewhere else. A couple friends of mine (one of whom was dating her) finally washed it out.

In another circumstance, a housemate was willfully messy. I tried to clean up and she yelled at me for messing with her stuff. We're talking about broken pottery and mold, here. Her house- her health problems, I moved as soon as I could.

In yet another circumstance, I lived with a couple who seemed allergic to doing dishes, and I never knew what was trash and what was an "art project." At least there, i had well defined personal space.

Basically, if your cleanliness habits don't jive with those of your roommate, just move.

Wow - I miss those days.... not!

I used to have to struggle with that with 2 roommates.... I was the only one to do the dishes, clean, and take out the garbage.

One time, I just let the place go to hell for a week so that they would see what I have to deal with... they didn't care...
Finally, I couldn't stand living like that so I broke down and did the cleaning again...

I think it takes alot of willpower to be that lazy! But you know what... you're probably better off doing it yourself - at least you can count on yourself and you always have that as a bargaining chip later.

You're not the only one. My husband and I have gotten into some "serious" fights over that. But now not so much. Guess it's just one of those things you gotta work out.

Best of luck.

i knew a girl who's rooommate was a total slob.

once he went on vacation for two weeks, but left dirty dishes and glasses on the table and in the sink. she took them all and put them in his room and closed the door. when he came back his room reeked (i guess there was milk or yogurt on one of the items) and he was thoroughly disgusted. he asked her why she did it, and she said "i thought they were important and that you were saving them."

i don't know if he cleaned up his act, but i sure thought it was funny!
