Strobilanthes is a genus in the plant family Acanthaceae that has many horticultural varieties. However, Strobilanthes heyneanus is a species that seems to be favored for its medicinal qualities and is used more in traditional medicinal practice (eg in India) than in horticulture.

As best I can tell it is a purple plant native to Asia that can be purchased at any local Home Depot. It is used for medicinal purposes for many things. Common use is in Arthoil along with many other ingredients to treat rheumatic fever.

The Strobilanthes Haenianus is a particularly nasty and grumpy little insect that can eat your entire foot in seconds.

However it is well know for only eating clean things - so don't ever wash again.
