This is not a religious question, I view religions as a prop for those who are not strong enough for life and its challenges. My mind is made up, but I am curious as to the opinion(s) of others on this matter.

it depends on the intentions behind what u are going to do.
if u do something bad and u cause suffering to anyone, then that is wrong no matter what the reason behind it.

if u have to do something bad but ur intention is good, say like if u had to kill someone like a man who was hurting children, in order to save someone else, killing that person is a really bad thing to have done, but if u did it to protect a child then the intention was good.

so u will still have to suffer consequences for killing someone, no matter what, but u will still gain merit from having protected a child and saving that child.

also it doesn't matter if u get off and don't have to go to jail for having killed the criminal, because u can get off legally but u still have the consequences of what u have done spiritually.
so it's not always ok to do bad things for good reasons, because u don't really know how things will turn out in spite of your reasons.
and like i said, there are always consequences for anything that u do.

p.s. u could have put this in the religious section or even the education section.
u didn't ask a specific military question, and this issue has to do with morals, education, as well as spirituality or even a lack of all those things.

No it is not in most cases. This is one of those depends questions. An example it would be wrong to kill a civilian to get a bad guy. Equally it would be okay to kill a civilian if the bad guy has a nuke brief case. So it depends is the good gained worth more than the bad done. The arguing starts in figuring out the relative Worth's as people defend there actions. Was the good more or less than the bad? Depends.

These terrorists who kill others not of their faith consider that they are justified in doing so - so presumably are thus doing bad things for good reasons. However, they would probably say they were NOT doing bad things. Some people say the end justifies the means. There may be a path which involves taking the lesser of two evils. The killing of say Hitler when he was a child may have been for the greater good - yet still it would have been infanticide. I think there are many cases where things most people would consider to be bad were done by others who considered them to be good and were (to them) doing them for good reasons. how these acts are interpreted is down to the views of the people involved and observing or commenting.

Not sure at all about this one!! Sounds hypocritical and, at the same time, a bit judgmental, however.

If you know what you are doing is thought of as bad, yet you go on, and then justify your actions b/c you feel some good will come from it, you have already decided what the good is.

Hypocrisy and judgmental.

I would like to discuss this idea, in detail, with you via email. It is most intriguing. I'm no expert but please contact me if you wish.

I,m sorry trying not to be religious on you.It 's just that this quote in the bible seems to answer your question. It says if you suffer for good you will be twice blessed. On a different note all together,I don't believe in whooping kid's,and have never whooped my two girl's.I see it as a bad thing but other parent's do it all the time for the good of a child.

Ya posted in the Military category so I don't see that religion would factor into it...

What "bad things" are you referring to? I don't think your question can be fairly answered with a blanket yes or no...so "perhaps sometimes" is the best I can give ya without a specific example...

It depends on the situation, speeding through a red light to get a sick person to the hospital would be fine, breaking in the front door of a burning house to rescue the people inside would be alright but going through a red light to get home faster would not be...etc....

Hitler did bad things for, what were to him, good reasons. Who determines 'good'? Does genocide fall under the 'good' category? Who determines who gets it in the end?

What is 'bad,' for that matter? Eating animals? Trying to heal AIDS victims, ensuring that they survive and possibly pass on their virus?

Anything can be good. Anything can be bad. It's all in the perspective, baby.

It depends what the bad thing is and what the good reasons are. I think in some instances it is acceptable.
