They are good in daylight, not so good indoor or flash. For general use, get a 4 -5 megapixel, with a LCD & viewfinder. Kodak or Canon is a good place to start. Kodak C330 is $130 at WalMart, less on the internet. Excellent starter camera. I got one for $80 new. Three things seem to be troublesome with digital cameras; poor flash, fragile LCD screens and failure of retractable lenses. Whatever you buy, use only nicad or NIMH batteries. This will help with the power/flash issues.
