Any workout that causes you to break a sweat. But I'll let you in on a little secret: only 20% of your caloric intake goes towards actually moving your body (the other 80% is needed just to maintain your body temperature); so no amount of working out is going to cause you to lose weight near as efficiently as simply cutting back on how much you eat.

Any type of cardio workout will burn calories and fat, but you should also mix in a weight regiment. The more lean muscle you build the more calories and fat you'll burn per workout.
Swimming, Running, Biking, stair climbing are all great cardio workouts that'll help you burn fat fast.

We used to call it "LSD"...Long, Slow Distance...the workout, that is.At least 25 minutes of moderate, aerobic exercise are ideal...an hour is better. Dont' go above your target heart rate or you start to burn muscle! Weight-bearing exercises are good for bone strength, but in one study (can't remember which one) they had women of the same weight, height, age, etc. do different workouts, and stationary biking caused the most weight loss.
Another great way to keep burning fat while you're not exercising is strength training. Muscle burns more calories to maintain than fat, so the more you have, the more calories your body needs.

The best workout to burn fat fast is a Hi/Lo or Interval. You bring your heart rate to Max for about 10 mins then (dont stop moving) you do weight training, squats, lunges, weights, in between do Cardio 10 min and Weights etc for 5 mins. Hi/Lo you will see a HUGE diffrence.

Cardio will burn fat while you're doing it, but building lean muscle with weights will burn calories 24 hours a day. A combination of eating clean (unprocessed) and healthy foods, cardio and weight training will offer the best results.

further to a previous response "only 20% of your caloric intake goes towards actually moving your body (the other 80% is needed just to maintain your body temperature)"; then in the event of shivering, where your body needs to activate muscles in order to keep the body warm, such as when you immerse yourself in ice-cold water, your body burns calories at an elevated rate - I've heard somewhere in the thousands of calories per hour. It's not healthy and naturally you risk your body shutting down and/or dying, but if you want to burn calories at an elevated rate, jump in the lake in January.

Weights build more muscle, and muscle burns more calories than your fat burns just to maintain it. Weights also work better for target fat burning than does cardio.
