The breathe is also part of the soul. Without the body and the breathe of life, we wouldn't be alive. The spirits live, but they aren't dead people. Spirits are not souls. We are souls.

We don't need the body. We are now covered by two kinds of material bodies-- the gross body made of the skin, muscles, bones, etc. and the subtle body made of the mind, intelligence and false ego. The soul is the person. Spirit soul is our real identity and the body is just the vehicle we are riding in. The soul doesn't need the body and in fact, the whole purpose of self-realization is to understand our identity as spirit soul so we will not have to be forced to inhabit a material body again when this body 'dies'. What we call birth and death are simply transformations of the body. The body actually is never alive in the first place and so it cannot die either. What we call death is when the spirit soul leaves the body. Because the spirit soul is eternal and the body is temporary, the spirit soul must leave the body at some point and go to another body. This new body is produced by nature under the direction of the Lord according to our desires and activities. We reap what we sow.

You can read a very lucid explanation of the nature of the soul and the science of self-realization in the Bhagavad-gita. The link below takes you to an online version.

are u cornfused?
the breath is part of our body, that comes from our lungs. we need to breathe in order to be alive.
what are you trying to say?
our soul is alive with in us until we pass away. then our soul will leave our body to be judged by god. then either we'll be able to enter into the kingdom of heaven or cast into the pit of hell forever. hell isn't where anyone should end up.
heaven, yes. eternal life forever....with love peace joy happiness no pain, no sickness, no more tears forever. how much more ? a whole lot more.
in hell, burn forever, gnashing of teeth, pain, suffering forever, demons yelling & screaming, pain beyond recognition, the heat so intense that you can't make it go away. anything in hell will never go away. it will get so bad there that you'd rather kill yourself, but guess what? u won't b able to.
heaven & hell are so real. they both exist.

Dear me, you are confused. There is not, nor has there ever been, any evidence for the existence of the soul. You have your consciousness thanks to the workings of your brain and your personality thanks to your surroundings and upbringing. Damage the brain and your consciousness and personality can be altered or destroyed. Where doe you imagine the 'soul' is then?
