Lucky you for never having gone through it!
It effects everyone differently. For me my heart DOES actually ache, like it is being squeezed tight. I sleep too much. Either I eat too much or not at all. And it will drive you crazy because you cannot stop thinking about that person. You agonize whether or not you should call them or not (don't), & you agonize even more reliving every little word or action that passed between you trying to figure out where you went wrong.
It is worse when you cannot understand why the person broke off with you or that person did not tell you why.

Not long ago the boy I loved left me for another girl. Since we were children I had dreamed that one day I would be his wife. Now I have no dreams left. A broken heart makes your whole world suddenly become unreal. You feel that you are sleepwalking through life with no reason or purpose. Day and night make no difference. Time crawls past you and every one looks like a stranger. There is no drug that can cause this to happen. Only the terrible sound of those few words: it is over.

Its a feeling that does drive you crazy. It keeps you up at night.
Its all you think about. Nothing satisfies you. Music on the radio
won't make you happy. You rethink every think in your mind. All the could of should ofs go through you head and you are lost to only the empty feeling inside of you. Its out of your control. You can't make that other person feel something that isn't there. That is the worst of it. Knowing that you are very hurt and the other on is moving on with there life.
If you never have had the chance to feel this way, count your blessing and pray for the ones around you who are going through the brokenheart. Its not a place anyone wants to be.
I am going through one right now.
Its over someone over the internet.
Now, its to trust someone who only reads
your words and just take them for
granted.

It feels like someone has ripped your heart out of your chest. You can't stop crying. You wonder what you did wrong and try to change yourself. Sometimes you feel like you can't even continue to live. But after a couple of weeks you get hardened and could care less about the stupid fool who broke your heart and realize there are a million other fish in the sea.

Yes, I have. I remember that at that point in time, I could feel nothing. Just a sort of a blankness. Somewhat like what your friends said - didn't feel like eating, drinking, didn't have a clue what tto do next sort of a thing. It lasted just for a few minutes and then i was back to normal.
Its like someone said - 'Freeze' and u actually did - there are no thoughts even. Just blank, unable to believe what i just heard, then shocked at what i heard, then wondering what else did i expect anyway and then - nothing for a few minutes and then - ok its time to grab a coffee and get to next task in hand.

Yes, I have felt like that. It feels like the end of the world. You stop doing your favorite things, you don't want to go anywhere...everything reminds you of that special person- songs, places, even certain words. It's depression times 100. It's the worst feeling in the world, but it makes moving on and loving someone else that much more special~

If you got it bad for a man./woman, you can't eat or sleep. You may even feel depressed. You even think about them all the time. If this ever happens to you, your best outlet is to be with your close friends to get your mind of of the person that broke your heart. Try not to be by yourself.

Yes, it feels like all of that.
It feels like something is being ripped out of your stomach, and lack of sleep is due to a lot of thinking "what if"...
It is a horrible thing to go through, but it usually is good in the end because you end up learning lessons about relationships and yourself and other people. It helps you grow.
