You can not spot your weight loss. People often make the mistake that if you do crunches, it will only burn off belly fat. This is completely wrong. By doing a regiment of cardio, weight-training, and core workouts, you will be able to lose weight all over your body. It depends on your body type which areas will lose the most but it will be a gradual process.
In your case, bicycling will improve your thigh and butt strength and achieve minimal gains in your core. This is great exercise, however, and you will begin to notice weight loss if you stick with it.

Biking will NOT help you reduce your butt or stomach. You're only working your quads when on a bike, especially a stationary bike. If you wanna reduce your butt and stomach, try running, swimming, an olyptical trainer. They all work the entire body.
There are also other exercises that are targeted toward the gluts and abdominal area.
Running and swimming are your best bets to reduce the trouble areas.

Anytime you do cardiovascular exercise, you lose fat by burning it as fuel. Your body doesn't take fat away from only those areas you're working, it takes it from ALL parts of your body. That's why serious female athletes don't have large chests; their bodies take fat from all over, not just legs or rear end or arms.
Only riding a bicycle will ensure your thighs and rear end have firm and strong muscles... they may be covered by a layer of fat if you're overweight, but whatever muscles hurt the day after an exercise, those are the ones that will firm up for you.

I bicycle all the time and I LOVE IT!!!!
As mentioned bicycling is a great cardiovascular excercise, and therefore you will burn fat all over and lose weight. It is true that your legs will get bigger because your muscles are getting bigger, but I would not worry about it what so ever because you'll be losing over all weight and they will look fabulous. (You'll only really gain muscle though if your are climbing hills and pedling in a high gear...a long flat ride with a lower gear will be cardio yet not so muscle building!)

Whoa! Riding a bicycle will INCREASE your thighs and butt! With muscle! It will probably reduce your stomach, though.

Well I'm just going to back up MicaelG bacause it's impossible to spot reduce by doing exercise or diet. The weight comes off according to your bodies "blueprint".Diet and exercise will help nontheless.I didn't even visit Yums's copied and pasted web log to know that.I've been lifting weights for 22 years and done extensive research.

To the extent that it provides a cardiovascular workout, it will reduce fat anywhere on your body if your caloric intake is lower than the calories being burned, but muscle buildup will be most apparent in the muscle groups actually being used.

it depends on how overweight you are. If you loose weight, you will loose inches everywhere. Bike riding is good for cutting pounds around the mid section and building leg and butt muscles. So I guess yes, but you have to push yourself and do sprinting type rides and stuff

no such thing as targeted weight loss. Fat is lost over all parts of the body and generally speaking the first place you gained fat will be the last place you loose it.
Biking will help loose fat all over but can increase the size, firmness and strength of your legs.

It should reduce everything. It is impossible to "spot reduce" any part of your body.
