Christians say that only God and Jesus are perfect and we humans are not.

It is true, we are not perfect.

However, if God were perfect and he created us imperfectly - that would make him imperfect as well since a perfect being cannot make mistakes.

A rather provocative question and one that deserves consideration.

If God is perfect, how can he make a mistake? Moreover, if he purposely made us imperfect, to what end would he do this. Consider a human father, would he purposely want his child to be imperfect, especially if he had the power to make him perfect? Does this mean that God is not a very good father? Now Christians would say he loved us so much he gave us free will, but free will is what God has and......hold on, if God has free will, then he, by definition cannot be perfect....hmmmmm

I'll have the mull this over.

One other thing, I notice many people here are upset with this question and presume a hatred of Christians. Why do you Christians think you alone have a handle on God, is that not Pride (one of the deadly sins). For shame on your pride and arrogance, if as you say God gave us free will, then allow the question to stand without debasement or fear. Your faith cannot be strong if this question is so frightening to you.

Well, hopefully you're really asking, and not just creating an argument.

God has many personalities. Father, martyred Son, supporting Friend (spirit). He is also a Creator. Go visit a model railroad sometime. God has built His own vast and complicated model railroad that He wants to enjoy. Now sometimes a model railroad will look "cool" if there in the parking lot of the town's train station there is a banged up Chevy in the corner, or a really horribly overpainted (with hot yellows and oranges and flame plumes painted on the side) Mustang under one of the light standards. It gives the place character. Did the chief model railroader "not know" what he was doing when he bashed in the front fender of the Chevy? Did He necessarily "prefer" outrageously painted Mustangs? Or did he simply "like" the chevy being a little dented. Or did the Mustang make the really cool red MGB roadster (research pictures of MGBs) look better beside it? This is the way models are built. Sometimes, total perfection is artistically imperfect.

God is a Father ... a martyred Son ... a Creator ... and also an Artist. Imperfects parts make an artistically perfect whole.

If God never made mistakes, then it was not a mistake when He created us. He must have had a reason for making us make "mistakes," though I think that if we are made by a perfect being who never makes mistakes, then we are all perfect in a way. Everything we do has a reason, even if it isn't a "good" reason. Remember, we are all a part of God's perfect plan, so we are a perfect part of that plan.

Perfection can never be flawed. Christians belive what they are taught to belive. It may or may not reflect reality.

We exist in a state of imperfection only to complement a state of perfection. What appears to be imperfect is only our point of view.

Assume a loop which gets formed when the infinte consiuosness(what we call god, the perfection) comes down to a finite level( we mortals, the imperfect) and back again to enjoy the state of perfection. This dichotomy can also be undestood by the laws of relativity( black exist only is there is white or good versus evil, so on and so forth)

I see what you are saying. You are asking how could a perfect God create imperfect humans. The answer is this: we were perfect. In the beginning, when God first created us, He called us "very good".

Genesis 1:31
God saw all that he had made, and it was very good...

If GOD is the one calling something good, it had better be REALLY good, perfect in fact! So perfect, that this creation of His actually had to ability to love Him out of their own will! They had something called free will. They could love God simply out of their own thankfulness! That truly is GOOD! However, mankind COULD use their good free will for evil purposes, thus corrupting themselves; making themselves imperfect. Remember, God wanted us to be obedient, but to see if we really would be, He provided--and provides--temptation. Although we are "good", we ARE lesser than Him. As such, we ARE capable of evil. And so, we chose the path that so many are on now--sin. But God still loves us, even though many of us choose to ignore Him. So.....

John 3:16
"For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.

Christ Jesus is the only One who can possibly save us, and ultimately, in heaven, we become "good" once again. I hope this helps, God bless you!

God can create a perfect being, but He chose to create us the way He did. He gave people the choices to make for themselves. As years have gone by, I'm sure we've become less perfect because of our choices throughout time.

Hmm, I don't believe I have ever been told or have read that Jesus was perfect. I believe he was created as a human and therefore, not perfect. The word, is in his/her image not created as him/her. I have yet to meet a perfect person, animal, insect, or object...if you run across one please let me know.
What would be the point of creating perfect animals/beings? They would be perfect, never make mistakes, and would they then truly have free will. The beautiful thing about life is that we live it every second and get to make choices. While we don't necessarily pick the consequences (that is done by our decisions and the results) we get to react to the situation. By your wording I would say you are not Christians ("Christians say...") but I digress...
Beautiful try on the circle logic... you are thinking.

He did NOT create us "imperfectly". He merely provided us with free will. When Adam and Eve fell to temptation for the forbidden fruit of knowledge, we ceased to be perfect from the choices we made.

A more interesting debate is that had Adam and Eve not gave in to this temptation, would we then be perfect, and yet ignorant since we did NOT partake of the fruit of knowledge?!

If you are referring to God creating an imperfect Mankind, than you must remember that he created Adam and Eve as perfect immortal Human Beings, to live forever, He also gave them free agency, When they chose to disobey Heavenly Father they became imperfect and mortal. My definition of Perfection is eternal progession. smile!

Our design was perfect. We were originally put in a perfect environment and we had GOD's infinite blessings. When sin entered the world, GOD took us out of that perfect environment and the blessings have to be asked for(prayer). Sin is the curse that we see in the world today.
